Director Policy, Reform, and Legislation Branch
The Department of Communities and Justice has a six-month temporary opportunity available for the Director Civil Justice Vulnerable Communities and Inclusion role. This position is part of the Policy, Reform, and Legislation branch which ensures that DCJ's legal and policy framework is aligned with the Government's current priorities.
The PRL branch provides expert legal policy and law reform advice, and the development of legislation in the justice and communities' sectors. It supports the development and delivery of justice systems reforms and provides parliamentary and administrative support services.
This role will lead the development, evaluation and implementation of cluster wide strategies in line with legislative priorities of the Government and Department. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive advice on key policy priorities, manage law and major process reforms to ensure targeted strategies can be implemented quickly and manages ongoing review and reform of major legislation.
* Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the development, evaluation and implementation of cluster wide strategies in line with legislative priorities of the Government and Department.
* Provide comprehensive advice on key policy priorities.
* Manage law and major process reforms to ensure targeted strategies can be implemented quickly.
* Manage ongoing review and reform of major legislation.
* Establish and sustain effective working relationships with senior policy professionals and key stakeholders across the public sector.
* Identify, evaluate, and critically analyse highly complex and politically sensitive issues and concerns affecting policy outcomes to deliver evidence-based decision making and develop logical, practical, and well-balanced policy resolutions.
This role involves researching, drafting legal policy advice, and developing legislative and non-legislative projects relating to the civil justice system, including discrimination and guardianship law. The successful candidate will also provide support for the legislative program for the Attorney General.
Requirements:
* Must hold Legal qualification or equivalent.
* Sound understanding of the justice system.
* Applied knowledge and experience in managing major project including people management.
* Strong stakeholder management skills, with proven experience in building collaborative partnerships.
* Highly developed policy skills and an ability to negotiate outcomes.
* Experience as a senior executive, leading a strong people culture that aligns to vision, purpose, and goals of the organisation.
