RoleIn this varied leadership role, you will coordinate the delivery of the City's local laws and animal services functions, which includes delivering pound and animal shelter services at the Bendigo Animal Relief Centre (BARC), ensuring they meet the City's legislative obligations and continue to meet the needs of the City and the community.You will lead and develop a high performing, flexible and resilient team with coaching and a positive, "can do" leadership style, so to achieve organisational goals identified through Council and Business Plans, and statutory requirements and ensure the teams deliver a high standard of customer service.You will also provide expert and professional advice relating to Local Laws and Animal Services matters, manage a budget with regular progress reporting and review and update policies and procedures.This role has 2 direct reports and oversees the team of 15 FTE.The role is a full 12 month backfill position, working mainly Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm at Galkangu (Bendigo GovHub) building, but will also travel to BARC in East Bendigo.About YouTo be successful in this role, you will have extensive team leadership experience and demonstrated experience in the management of Local Laws and/or Animal Management legislation, regulation, programs and procedures, with the proven ability to achieve better outcomes through problem solving, policy development and continuous improvement.You will have high level understanding and experience in the application of a risk-based approach and the collection of evidence, preparation of evidence briefs and giving evidence on behalf of Council.You will have experience with managing a budget with excellent decision making and communication skills.A satisfactory police check, employee Working with Children Check and drivers licence are required for this role.BenefitsAnnual salary increases (next 3% increase from 11 October 2025)Contribute to our community |Salary packaging options | Values based organisationGenerous leave entitlements | Learning & development opportunitiesVisit our Employee Benefits website for more of our benefits.ContactIf you require any further information regarding this position, please contact Sam Johnston, Acting Manager Safe Environments on (03) 5434 6323 or Michelle Wyatt, Acting Director Healthy Communities & Environments on (03) 5434 6441.To ApplyPlease submit your cover letter, outlining why you are interested in this position and detailing your relevant experience with your current CV/resume by close of business Thursday 9 October 2025.
