A Darwin-Based Role with Meaningful Community Impact
This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior People & Culture leadership role with one of the Northern Territory’s most respected Aboriginal organisations — while maintaining a Darwin base
BHAC supports flexible working arrangements and welcomes applications from candidates who may be based in Darwin, with regular travel to Maningrida (minimum one week per month onsite). An initial onboarding period onsite will also be required to build relationships, understand the community context, and set the role up for long-term success.
Maningrida is located in the stunning West Arnhem Land region — a place of extraordinary natural beauty, strong cultural traditions, and deep community connection. Your work will contribute directly to supporting BHAC’s people, culture, and workforce across the region.
This role is advertised as Darwin-based with regular travel to Maningrida. However, BHAC welcomes applications from candidates who may wish to be based full-time in Maningrida, NT.
Lead Change, Build Culture, Strengthen Foundations
Reporting to the General Manager and as part of the senior leadership team, the People & Culture Manager will lead HR strategy, operations, and organisational culture across BHAC.
You will provide trusted advice to managers on all people matters, including complex HR issues, working within a Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA), and compliance with the Fair Work Act and National Employment Standards (NES).
To be successful in this environment, you’ll bring a practical and solutions-focused approach, someone who can interpret HR frameworks and compliance requirements in a way that aligns with operational realities in the community, while still maintaining best practice and organisational integrity.
BHAC also partners with external legal advisors for higher-level industrial relations and employment law matters, ensuring the P&C Manager has access to expert support where needed.
Who We're Looking For
You’re an experienced HR professional who thrives in complex, fast-moving environments and you bring the judgement, adaptability, and interpersonal strength to lead with credibility across the organisation.
Most importantly, you’re someone who brings energy, initiative, and a genuine people-first approach. You are comfortable balancing policy, compliance, and governance with real-world decision making and you understand that building a strong workplace culture requires empathy, patience, and trust.
To be considered for this role, you will ideally have:
* Demonstrated HR leadership experience in a generalist capacity
* Experience creating or redefining HR frameworks, including policies, processes, and practical implementation
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and advise at all levels
* A pragmatic and solutions-focused mindset, with the ability to think creatively in complex situations
* Knowledge of Australian employment legislation, HR practices, and industrial relations
* Confidence working with diverse teams, ideally in remote, cross-cultural, or community-facing environments
* A valid driver’s licence
Desirable experience includes:
* Experience working within an Aboriginal organisation or similar community-focused setting
* Experience supporting a dispersed or remote workforce
* Previous experience managing an HR team
* Experience using human resources management software such as ELMO
Please Note: Successful applicants will need to hold (or be willing to obtain) an NT Ochre Card and a Satisfactory National Police Check clearance.
