The Role
We are seeking an experienced ADABAS / DB2 Database Administrator to support and manage critical database services across mainframe and distributed environments. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, and security of Adabas databases across z/OS and UNIX platforms, while supporting both operational stability and modernisation initiatives. You will work closely with application and infrastructure teams to optimise performance, manage change, and support ongoing improvements. This is a highly technical role suited to a senior DBA with strong mainframe experience and the ability to operate in complex, business‐critical environments.
Key Responsibilities
* Install, configure, and maintain ADABAS database environments across z/OS and UNIX platforms (AIX, Linux, Solaris).
* Monitor and optimise database performance, capacity, and system health.
* Manage backups, recovery processes, and disaster recovery testing.
* Apply patches, upgrades, and manage database change control activities.
* Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, providing root cause analysis and recommendations.
* Support batch and online workloads dependent on ADABAS databases.
* Collaborate with development teams to implement enhancements and changes.
* Support and maintain Natural applications integrated with Adabas.
* Maintain documentation for system configurations, processes, and recovery procedures.
What You'll Need
* Experience in ADABAS database administration.
* Strong experience working within mainframe z/OS environments.
* Experience with UNIX/Linux systems and associated tooling.
* Knowledge of ADABAS utilities (e.g., ADAULD, ADACMP, ADASAV).
* Strong understanding of JCL and batch processing environments.
* Experience with job scheduling tools such as Control‐M or CA‐7.
* Solid understanding of backup, recovery, data integrity, and security practices.
* Experience supporting Natural applications (desirable).
