If you enjoy getting into the detail, strengthening financial systems, and making sure numbers tell a clear story, this Group Accountant role is worth a look. Working as a key member of the finance team, you'll take ownership of group-level reporting, consolidation, cashflow, budgeting support, and financial governance—helping keep Caledonia in strong financial shape as the business continues to grow.
Who's hiring?
For over 25 years, Caledonia Group has delivered scaffolding, rope access, insulation, cladding, and engineering solutions across mining, energy, infrastructure, and commercial sectors in Australia, New Zealand, and beyond. We support some of the biggest and most complex projects in the region, backed by uncompromising safety standards and more than 120 years of combined leadership experience. As we continue to expand, we're looking for a skilled Group Accountant who can support accurate reporting, strong financial governance, and high-quality insights across our multi-entity, multi-jurisdiction business.
So, what's the role?
As Group Accountant, you'll work closely with the Finance Director to deliver timely, accurate, and meaningful financial reporting for the Group. You'll lead month-end consolidation, strengthen financial controls, support budgeting and forecasting, and partner with state and regional managers to help them understand performance at the ground level. It's a role with variety - part reporting, part analysis, part problem-solving—and an opportunity to make a real impact in a business that values initiative, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Here's what a typical week might look like:
Financial Reporting & Month-End
* Lead the end-to-end month-end close process across all entities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
* Prepare consolidated Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cashflow statements.
* Manage intercompany reconciliations and ensure appropriate eliminations.
* Complete and review balance sheet reconciliations for all Group entities.
* Produce monthly management reports, including variance analysis and clear, insightful commentary.
Financial Controls & Compliance
* Strengthen financial governance through robust internal controls, policies, and procedures.
* Ensure all statutory and regulatory reporting requirements are met.
* Support the annual audit, including preparation of audit files and managing auditor queries.
* Ensure consistent application of accounting standards and group financial policies.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
* Assist in preparing the annual budget and quarterly reforecasts.
* Analyse performance against budget and provide meaningful variance insights.
* Deliver KPIs, financial analysis, and decision-support to the Finance Director and operational leaders.
* Monitor job/project profitability and oversee overhead allocation accuracy.
Cash Management
* Prepare weekly and monthly cashflow forecasts that support operational planning.
* Monitor working capital performance, including debtors, creditors, and inventory.
* Support treasury requirements and financing arrangements when required.
Systems & Process Improvement
* Drive consistency, efficiency, and continuous improvement across financial systems and reporting processes.
* Maintain the integrity of MYOB project costing tools and related financial data.
* Support implementation of new system modules, automation initiatives, and reporting dashboards.
Operational Support
* Work closely with State/Regional Managers to help interpret financial results and improve performance.
* Attend operational meetings to provide financial insight and support decision-making.
* Provide guidance and training on financial processes to non-finance stakeholders.
Teamwork & Leadership
* Champion a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance.
* Contribute actively to the development, capability, and professionalism of the finance team.
Is this role for you?
We're looking for someone who has:
* A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline (CA/CPA desirable).
* At least five years' senior finance experience within a multi-entity environment, ideally in construction, engineering, or another complex operational sector.
* Strong technical accounting skills, particularly in consolidation, reporting, and financial control.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both finance and operational teams.
* A proactive, steady approach with the confidence to improve processes and challenge the status quo when needed.
What's in it for you?
* Join a $100m+ national construction business in a stable, growing sector.
* Work closely with an experienced Finance Director and respected leadership team.
* Be part of a no-nonsense, down-to-earth culture that values smart thinking and accountability.
* Competitive salary and a long-term, secure career path.
