About the role
The purpose of this role is to ensure an appropriate level of tax risk management for Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation ("CSC") from a tax compliance and reporting perspective. It is expected that this role is to work with and support the Manager, Group Tax to manage CSC's tax compliance and reporting matters and to also support the other functions of CSC (including CSC Finance Team, CSC People Team and CSC Customer Innovation & Services Team) and add value to CSC through industry and taxation knowledge that is relevant to CSC's commercial environment and objectives
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
* Preparing CSC's tax compliance matters, including Australian and foreign income tax returns, BASs (PAYG and GST) and FBT compliance for all CSC entities
* Preparing requests for amended tax returns for CSC entities and ensure that all lodgements are made on time
* Assisting in the preparation of the US tax compliance process
* Preparing CSC's annual income tax provisions for financial statement purposes and liaison with the Finance Team
* Preparing the trust distribution reviews for CSC's investment and property trusts and liasing with the property managers
* Working with the Manager, Group Tax in responding to various audits and information requests from local and overseas tax authorities in relation to CSC's tax compliance processes
* Actively monitoring and managing the mitigation of potential tax compliance risks
* Conducting tax research and able to report research findings to the Manager, Group Tax.
* Monitoring related tax compliance and risk management activities
* Keeping abreast of changing market trends and industry developments/legislative developments and monitoring the implications on taxation policies and legislation and advising CSC appropriately
* Working with the Manager, Group Tax in maintaining an effective working relationship with CSC's external tax advisers and providing oversight over the delivery of their advice and other deliverables.
Desired Skills and Experience
Qualifications
* Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Economics, Commerce, Law, or a related discipline
* Membership (or working towards membership) with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, CPA Australia, or the Tax Institute of Australia
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* 0–3 years' experience in a tax or related professional services environment
* Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
* Well-developed organisational and project management capabilities
* Demonstrated ability to analyse complex issues, solve problems, and provide practical recommendations
* Proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality or accuracy
* Ability to engage and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders on complex tax matters
* Solid technical understanding of the Australian tax system, including companies, trusts, partnerships, and superannuation entities
* Strong foundational accounting knowledge
* Experience delivering training or presentations on tax compliance topics
* Ability to identify and advise on Australian and international tax compliance opportunities
* Experience collaborating across multidisciplinary teams, including Investment Tax and Finance
