A full range of paediatrics and adolescent health services are provided plus tertiary and quaternary care for the most critically ill and medically complex patients in Victoria, Tasmania, southern NSW and other states around Australia and overseas. The Hospital has more than 6,000 staff, a budget of $850M, 12 wards and 350 beds. Annually, the RCH has 300,000+ Specialist Clinic appointments, 90,000+ Emergency Department presentations and 20,000 elective surgeries.The RCH is committed to the Child Safe Standards .RCH enjoys high employee engagement and is committed to staff safety and a positive culture through enactment of our Compact.For further Information on RCH is available here .Friendly and supportive team environmentParkville, Melbourne locationPro-active and supportive leadershipAbout The RoleWe have a part time Grade 1/ Grade 2 fixed term position, 45.6hrs per Fortnight, until 30/06/2026, within the Child Life Therapy department. Potential occasional evenings and weekend shift work available.You will provide a comprehensive Child Life Therapy service to patients of RCH, as part of a multidisciplinary team who work with children and families across a range of clinical areas. By working in close collaboration with medical, nursing and allied health staff at RCH you will ensure that services provided to children are innovative, evidence based and provided in a child and family centred context.This role would be suitable for a person with an education and/or other discipline with a strong background in child development. Open to considering applications from other Allied Health professions.Classification for this position will range from Grade 1 Year 2 to Grade 2 Year 4 PT61-PT70 (base salary $74173 - $103725 per annum, plus superannuation, plus salary packaging).What You'll AchieveProvide a Child Life Therapy service as required by the department to support children and familiesPrioritise and co-ordinate service delivery to maximise Child Life Therapy service availabilitySupport children through their medical interventions and assist them in their ability to cope with illness and hospitalisation through evidence based play and developmentally appropriate paradigmsBuild and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships with others including patients/families and other cliniciansDevelop individualised procedural support plans in partnerships with children, families and treating teams to enhance coping and procedural complianceYour Skills And ExperienceRecognised Tertiary Qualification or equivalent in Education, Occupational Therapy, Psychology or Social WorkCurrent VIT Registration (registered teacher) or current registration as an Occupational Therapist or a qualified Social Worker, or PsychologistEligibility for Membership in Victoria with the appropriate Professional BodyA minimum of 2 years continuous and relevant work experience in a relevant disciplineThorough understanding of childhood development between the ages of 0-18 yearsIf this sounds like you, please see further details in teh position descriptions below.Grade 1 Child Life TherapistGrade 2 Child Life TherapistAbout The DepartmentChild Life Therapy engages children, young people and their families to support their understanding and help them cope with the stress and uncertainty associated with hospitalisation.
