Sydney Creative is seeking a skilled and versatile Sewing Teacher to join our team. As a Sewing Teacher, your role will involve running our group sewing classes, as well as some private sewing classes.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead a variety of sewing workshops, including our Sewing For Beginners class, Introduction to Garment Making where participants sew a pair of shorts or pants, and our Dressmaking class.
* Develop and launch a t-shirt making class with management.
* Independently manage shop operations during your shift, including opening and closing procedures.
* Process customer payments in-person
* Upselling our other classes that are either sewing or non sewing related
* Maintain the organisation and cleanliness of the studio
Role Details:
* Primary teaching hours are on Saturdays and Sundays, with some weekday evenings shifts also available.
* Guide participants with varying skill levels, from beginners to intermediate sewists
* Provide personalised recommendations to participants for future classes aligned with their sewing goals
* Cultivate a supportive and collaborative classroom environment
Qualifications and Requirements:
* Proficient sewing skills, especially in garment making and following commercial patterns
* Strong communication skills to confidently lead and instruct groups of up to 10 adults
* Exceptional reliability, time management, and attention to detail
* Ability to adapt and think on your feet to provide quick solutions
* Basic understanding of various domestic sewing machines and overlockers
* Willingness to undergo training to align with our teaching methods and machine operation
* Fluent in English with the capacity to articulate instructions clearly
* Have your own ABN, first aid certification, and public liability insurance

* Demonstrated ability to guide participants verbally through sewing projects while encouraging their independent progress
