About the Role
We're looking for a passionate Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Worker to join our Stopping Family Violence program in Cairns. This is a permanent, part-time role (60 hours per fortnight), with potential relocation support for the right candidate.
In this role, you'll facilitate group programs with men who use violence, focusing strongly on the safety and wellbeing of partners, families, and the wider community. You'll also provide individual counselling to support accountability and long-term behaviour change.
Beyond direct client work, you'll contribute to community education initiatives that raise awareness of DFV and promote prevention strategies. As part of a coordinated community response, you'll work closely with police, solicitors, court staff, counsellors, and community agencies.
While open to all applicants, we particularly encourage male candidates to apply, as lived perspectives are highly valued in supporting the delivery of men's behaviour change programs.
Additionally, you will:
* Assess program suitability and provide case management with a strong focus on the safety of clients and their families.
* Facilitate group programs, deliver crisis intervention, and provide individual counselling to men who use violence.
* Offer information and support relating to protection orders, court processes, and the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act.
* Develop, implement, and evaluate training and community education programs to raise awareness and support prevention strategies.
* Build and maintain effective relationships with police, solicitors, court staff, other counsellors, and community agencies to strengthen a coordinated community response to domestic and family violence.
* Work hours will be negotiated with the successful candidate. Please note some flexibility is required, including one evening shift per week (between 9.30am and 8pm).
About You
You are a compassionate and skilled practitioner passionate about creating safer futures for individuals, families, and communities impacted by domestic and family violence. With a strong grounding in social or behavioural sciences, you bring experience in group facilitation and individual counselling, as well as the ability to engage respectfully and collaboratively with men who use violence to foster genuine behaviour change. You thrive in building trust, working in partnership with community agencies, and delivering prevention programs that drive awareness and early intervention. Importantly, you are resilient, adaptable, and committed to advancing safety, accountability, and positive change.
Additionally, you have:
* Undergraduate qualifications in the social or behavioural sciences.
* Experience working with clients in a group facilitation model and in individual counselling.
* Demonstrated experience working with local networks and agencies using principles of community development.
* Knowledge of current theory and practice relating to domestic and family violence and a capacity to deliver community education programs.
We Can Offer You
At RAQ, we believe in supporting our people both inside and outside the workplace. Here's what you can look forward to as part of our team:
