About the role
This is a full-time position based in Glen Innes, NSW 2370. As the Coordinator of Development Assessment at Glen Innes Severn Council, you will play a pivotal role in the council's planning and development processes. Reporting to the Director of Planning and Development, you will be responsible for overseeing the assessment and determination of development applications to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies and guidelines.
What you'll be doing
Manage and coordinate the assessment of development applications, including liaising with applicants, internal and external stakeholders, and determining applications in accordance with statutory timeframes
Provide expert advice and guidance to council staff, developers and the public on planning and development matters
Ensure development assessment processes and decisions comply with relevant legislation, policies and guidelines
Contribute to the development and review of council's planning instruments and policies
Manage and mentor a team of development assessment officers
Represent council at planning meetings, hearings and tribunals as required
Prepare high-quality reports and recommendations for council and other authorities
What we're looking for
Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning, Urban Design, or a related field
Significant experience in a similar role, with a proven track record of assessing and determining complex development applications
Comprehensive knowledge of planning legislation, policies and guidelines, particularly the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with developers, the community and other government agencies
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and apply complex planning regulations
Demonstrated leadership and people management experience, with the ability to mentor and develop a team
