About You

You’ll hold a Certificate IV in Community Services, Mental Health, or a related field and bring proven experience engaging and mentoring children and young people in both individual and group settings. You’ve successfully facilitated support groups and helped guide youth through mentoring relationships, demonstrating a genuine ability to connect and build trust.

You work effectively both independently and as part of a team, showing initiative, taking ownership of your responsibilities, and reliably following through on your commitments to children, families, and partners. Your empathetic, non-judgmental approach ensures you listen attentively and care deeply about the well‑being of young people, while your enthusiasm and creativity energise program design, engagement strategies, and resource development tailored to mental health support. You’re reflective and open to feedback, continually seeking to improve your practice.

Ideally, you’ll also have a personal understanding of what it’s like to live with a family member with mental illness and possess knowledge in child and youth development. Familiarity with mental health first aid, suicide prevention, recovery principles, and trauma-informed care will enable you to support children facing mental health challenges with sensitivity and insight. A strong awareness of common mental health issues affecting young people will help you tailor your support effectively.
