LEADING CRANE SERVICES (LCS) is a locally owned business specialising in servicing, repairs and manufacturing of overhead cranes. Our strong customer base throughout South Australia includes metro, rural and outback mining clients, giving our staff a broad range of sites and equipment to keep work interesting. We currently have an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious Electrician to join our successful team in the Crane Department.
About the role
The Service Manager is responsible for the leadership, coordination and performance of Leading Crane Services maintenance and service operations across all South Australian regions.
This role is pivotal in ensuring that all service activities, including preventative maintenance, breakdown responses, and repairs are executed safely, efficiently and profitably, whilst upholding the company's professional standards and client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
* Provide day to day leadership, scheduling and oversite of technicians and apprenticeships
* Set clear expectations and ensure team accountability for performance, safety and professionalism
* Conduct toolbox meetings, debriefs and regular check-ins to maintain engagement and communication between staff
* Provide support for training of technicians and apprentices, identifying gaps in skillsets and creating action plans for upskilling
Leadership & Team Management
* Develop weekly and monthly service schedules aligned with preventative maintenance contracts and project demands
* Ensure efficient allocation of resources, minimising travel downtime and overhead costs
* Maintain visibility of technician workload and progress against planned tasks
* Lead daily coordination of technicians to ensure timely execution of jobs
Client and Project Management
* Act as the primary contact for service clients, ensuring responsive and professional communication
* Provide day to day and afterhours support for client callout
* Manage breakdowns, warranty works, and service delivery to meet client expectations
* Ensure all work complies with Australian Standards and site safety protocols
* Build strong client relationships through reliable service and transparent communication
Financial and Commercial Accountability
* Oversee service department profitability, ensuring all work is invoiced promptly and accurately
* Enforce minimum margin targets and job costing processes with no unapproved discounts
* Monitor and report on hours utilisation, profitability of utilisation
* Ensure responsible and accountable use of company card spending, vehicles and equipment
* Identify and escalate cost inefficiencies or risks early
Quoting and Documentation
* Review all service quotations for scope completeness and accuracy
* Ensure job descriptions, inclusions and exclusions are clearly defined in all quotes
* Maintain up-to-date job documentation, timesheets and completion reports for invoicing and compliance
* Support continual improvement of quote templates, checklists and job close-out forms
Safety and Compliance
* Enforce LCS safe work procedures and ensure all works are performed in accordance with WHS legislation
* Conduct periodic site safety checks and report near misses or incidents promptly
* Ensure technicians maintain current high-risk work licenses and inductions
About You
* Proven experience in a service management role within a technical or trade-based environment
* Strong leadership, orginisational and communication skills
* Sound understanding of WHS legislation and Australia Standards
* Commercially minded with experience in job costing, margins and service profitability
* Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced service environment
