Primary objective
The purpose of this role is to manage, administer and oversee the execution of all major remediation contracts for the Rum Jungle Project.
Maintaining a visible on-site presence to enable Supervision of works and verification of delivered works will be a critical aspect of the
Projects success.
Context statement
The Northern Territory Government (NTG), in partnership with the Commonwealth, have been developing a leading practice rehabilitation
strategy for the former Rum Jungle mine site since 2009. Stage 3 of the rehabilitation project will deliver the complete construction and
works program. The workplace is characterised by changing priorities, rapid turn-around times and requires considerable resilience and
flexibility.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake the superintendent role in managing and administering all major remediation contracts for the project.
2. Manage site supervision of works and verification of hold and witness points to ensure that workmanship and materials comply with
specifics and specific contract documentation; maintenance of construction records including as-constructed measurements, daily
diaries and photographic records.
1. Undertake the roles of Superintendent Representative for construction contracts and role of Contract Supervisor for consultants.
2. Administration of design consultancies and construction contracts, to ensure construction and industry standards are maintained and
comply with Northern Territory legislation and Departmental policies and procedures.
5. Manage negotiations with a strong grasp of the key issues, anticipating stakeholders' expectations and concerns, encouraging the
support of relevant stakeholders.
6. Provide high level professional written and verbal advice to senior management, industry groups and individual stakeholders.
1. Manage the month end survey data input and reporting.
2. Provide strategic and/or technical advice on current and emerging issues in relation to the project.
3. Maintain a visible on-site presence and participate in the day-to-day site management to stay abreast of issues and developments.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Extensive senior leadership experience in the mining sector, preferably including site and mine management; running a production
schedule, water treatment, geochemical and geotechnical quality control and assurance, survey, mine planning and remediation.
2. Tertiary Qualifications in either Mining Civil Engineering, Mine Surveying or Mining Engineer disciplines.
3. Strong project management knowledge and experience in contract management, development and interpretation of design and
construction tender documentation and procurement processes.
4. Experience in contract and stakeholder negotiations, influencing, and dispute resolution and relationship management.
5. Demonstrated ability to approach negotiations with a strong grasp of the key issues, anticipating stakeholders' expectations and
concerns, encouraging the support of relevant stakeholders.
6. High level written and verbal communication skills in presentations, contractual correspondence, briefings and authority submissions
including the ability to clearly articulate complex concepts and critical issues with simplicity.
7. A sound knowledge of the principles of equity and diversity, occupational health and safety, and people and project management.
8. Demonstrated cross cultural awareness, understanding and knowledge, including a sound understanding of cultural sensitivities and
needs in working with Aboriginal people.
