Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Holroyd and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region. What you'll be doing

The AMIHS Midwife is responsible for the provision of evidence based and woman-centred maternity care to Aboriginal women, and women having an Aboriginal baby, and their partners and families.

The AMIHS midwife provides high quality care that is underpinned by the 10 principles for primary maternity care to residents of Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). The AMIHS midwife will work in collaboration with the AMIHS Team – Midwife, Aboriginal Health Practitioner & Aboriginal Health Worker; and other Aboriginal Health staff including the New Directions Aboriginal Mothers and Babies Program. The position will also be expected to work collaboratively with antenatal and maternity services across WSLHD.

AMIHS aims to improve access to maternal health services for pregnant Aboriginal women or women having an Aboriginal baby. The AMIHS midwife will provide clinical, cultural, educational and psychological support as well as enhancing the seamless transition to child and family health services and to other agencies as required. Community engagement and community development are also key components of the model. AMIHS is based at the Aboriginal Health Hub on the grounds of Mt Druitt Hospital and reports operationally through Integrated & Community Health.

Essential Criteria:

* Registration: Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) as a Registered Midwife (Division 1).

Selection Criteria:

* In this role, being a woman is also a genuine occupational qualification as authorised by Section 31 respectively of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW.
* Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) as a Registered Midwife (Division 1).
* Demonstrated extensive experience and clinical skill as a registered midwife and demonstrated commitment to woman-centred midwifery care and awareness of cultural respect and sensitivity.
* Demonstrated understanding of the AMIHS Program and of broader Aboriginal Health issues including demonstrated understanding the of the unique medical, physical, social and emotional issues in Aboriginal maternal and infant health.
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander cultures and have knowledge of and / or links with the local Aboriginal community.
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of continuity of carer/primary health care models of midwifery care in addition to an explicit understanding of strengths-based philosophy.
* Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as a member of a multidisciplinary team with demonstrated effective teamwork and communication skills and demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work.
* Current Driver's Licence valid in NSW and willingness to use for work purposes.
