YWCA Canberra is seeking a Child and Youth Focused DFV Support Worker
With the continued growth of our Domestic Violence Support Service (DVSS), we are expanding our team to strengthen the trauma‐informed, culturally responsive, and empowering support we provide to children and young people (aged 0–17) and their parents/carers.
About the Role
This role is ideal for a passionate, community-minded professional who wants to make a real difference in the lives of children and families impacted by domestic and family violence.
Grounded in feminist, strength-based, child-centred, family-focused, gender and trauma-informed practice. It involves:
Direct Support & Case Management
* Conducting risk assessments and safety planning with protective parents and children.
* Delivering centre-based and outreach support to families affected by domestic and family violence (DFV).
* Providing short-term advocacy, information, and support to access legal, housing, and safety services.
* Developing individualised support plans and maintaining accurate case notes and documentation.
Empowerment & Relationship Building
* Supporting children and families to build resilience, foster healthy relationships, and recover from violence.
* Strengthening the parent-child relationship through communication, trust, and emotional development.
* Facilitating evidence-based group programs for children, young people, and parents.
* Working in a team-based approach to identify and coordinate services.
* Collaborating with agencies like Onelink, Legal Aid, ACT Police, schools, and others.
* Participating in case coordination meetings and maintaining strong cross-sector relationships.
About You
You are a compassionate and community-minded professional with a strong foundation in social work, psychology, human services, or community services (Diploma or higher). You bring at least 2 years' experience supporting women, children, and families impacted by domestic, family, or sexual violence and you're confident working in both crisis response and planned support settings.
The right person will have
* A solid understanding of trauma-informed, strengths-based, and child-centred practice
* Experience in case management, outreach, advocacy, and group facilitation
* Skills in engaging children and young people in developmentally appropriate ways
* Knowledge of child safety principles, safeguarding practices, and relevant legislation
* A commitment to culturally responsive care, especially with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and people from diverse backgrounds
* Strong collaboration skills and familiarity with local services and systems navigation
* Confidence using case management systems and digital tools to document and support your work
