About The Role

Townsville City Council is seeking a strategic and commercially focused leader to translate its vision into clear priorities and deliver key initiatives, projects and services aligned to the Corporate Plan. In this role, you will help maintain a strong and sustainable financial position through collaborative budget development and management, while building scalable resourcing models that leverage internal capability and external partnerships. With a focus on innovation and continuous improvement, you will enhance systems, processes and service delivery to achieve consistent, high-quality outcomes for the community.

You will lead a team delivering commercial analysis, long-term financial planning and business partnering services, providing strategic and operational financial advice across the organisation. This includes analysing financial and non-financial data, identifying trends and opportunities, and preparing business cases to support informed decision making. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you will also contribute to developing sustainable funding models that position Council to respond to future economic opportunities and community needs.

About You

You will bring proven contemporary leadership experience, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and influence a wide range of stakeholders. With strong financial and budget management capability, you can balance resources to deliver quality outcomes while meeting organisational and statutory requirements. Your strategic thinking and policy expertise enable you to drive organisational objectives and align service delivery with high-quality customer experiences.

You are an effective communicator with strong interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, allowing you to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels. You have demonstrated experience leading complex projects from planning through to delivery and reporting, and you operate with integrity, accountability and a strong commitment to team outcomes. Supported by relevant tertiary qualifications in Finance, Business, Economics or a related field (with postgraduate or professional memberships desirable), you bring a proven track record of success in a senior role within a large organisation.
