Our Surf Coast Shire Youth Development Team exists to empower local young people aged 12 to 25 years to thrive, now and into the future.
Our goal is to provide young people with the tools and confidence to pursue their passions, have a voice, make informed decisions, and be able to easily access the support services they need. Our work has a strong health and wellbeing prevention focus and involves linking local young people with relevant and meaningful specialist support services.
We are currently looking for a Youth Engagement Officer to support the delivery of the Engage! funding at Surf Coast Shire. The role involves undertaking meaningful consultation with young people and stakeholders, and to plan, develop, manage, and evaluate Council’s youth programs to ensure they are high quality, well promoted and meet the needs of young people in the Surf Coast.
**What you will bring to the role**
We are currently looking for a Youth Engagement Officer to support the delivery of the Engage! funding at Surf Coast Shire. The role involves undertaking meaningful consultation with young people and stakeholders, and to plan, develop, manage, and evaluate Council’s youth programs to ensure they are high quality, well promoted and meet the needs of young people in the Surf Coast.

**Key selection criteria**
**Mandatory qualifications, experience and requirements**
- Diploma in Youth Development, Community Development or other relevant qualifications/experience (Qualification Check will be conducted) or studying Bachelor of Youth Work, Education or other relevant qualification
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the needs and issues of young people.
- Ability to communicate with young people to encourage and support their participation in youth related programs.
- Demonstrated skills in gaining cooperation and assistance from a wide range of community groups.
- Skills in managing time, planning and working autonomously.
- A current Working With Children Check
- You have the permanent right to live and work in Australia
- Police Check results that are suitable for this position (will be arranged by Surf Coast Shire Council). A complete international criminal history check is required if the person has worked or lived overseas for any period of time OR a complete national criminal history check is required if the person has only ever worked in Australia.
