The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) was officially formed in 1960 and has grown steadily from being a sole aeromedical service to having a professional and dedicated team who deliver a holistic healthcare service across Tasmania.

We work in partnership with general practitioners, allied health professionals, and local service providers to deliver physical and mental health programs, as well as an award-winning outreach dental program. Our vision is to improve the health outcomes for all Tasmanians with a specific focus on remote and rural areas.

About the role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and qualified Youth Mental Health Workerto join our mental health team.

Specialising in the provision of direct mental health practice, the successful candidate will provide therapeutic support to young people in our rural and remote communities.

The position is full time (part time may be considered) and reports directly to the Team Leader Mental Health, covering the Dorset and George Town Municipalities of Tasmania.

The position is on fixed term basis until 30 June 2026.

In this role you will deliver community-based, mild-to-moderate, client-centred mental health care. The successful candidate will work with other stakeholders and services delivering evidence-based psychological interventions.

Duties

* Provide a range of specialist mental health services to young people (8-17 yrs).
* Provide multi-modal treatments and interventions to individuals, their families, and/or loved ones, and groups.
* Deliver care coordination, case management supports, and transfer of care services.
* Maintain a contemporary understanding of mental health issues and recovery-orientated mental health practices.
* Continuously develop your practice through reflection, training, experience, and clinical supervision
* Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver specialised youth mental health strategies to support community capacity and health promotion in the person's local community.
* Develop, coordinate, and facilitate local and wider networking and support channels.
* Maintain client confidentiality.
* Operate in accordance with relevant legislation affecting clinical practice, maintaining an informed understanding of the National Safety (and)
* Quality Health Service Standards and National Standards for Mental Health Services.

Travel

This role will require travel to rural communities.

What you will need

* Minimum bachelor's degree in allied health (psychology, social work, counselling, or similar).
* Experience working with young people in-person and/or via telehealth in the provision of evidence-based mental health care.
* Ability to manage own caseload and schedule independently.
* Exception interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to engage, liaise, and interact effectively with multiple stakeholders.
* An understanding of the health and wellbeing realities of rural and remote communities
* Effective time management and organisational skills
* A thorough understanding of recovery orientated values/principles and trauma-informed practice/experience
* Proven ability to effectively perform both autonomously and in a team-based environment.
* Reliable, with high integrity and a strong work ethic.
* Membership/registration with ACA, PACFA, APS, or AASW

Compliance

* Current Drivers Licence – (Tasmanian Licence preferred)
* Working with Vulnerable People Card
* Current National Police Check
* Visa to work in Australia.
