About the role
The Associate Director, Visitor Economy Priorities leads the development and delivery of the NSW Aviation Strategy, NSW Jobs Growth Strategy and NSW Accommodation Strategy, aligned to the NSW Visitor Economy Strategy 2035. The role focuses on shaping practical, evidence-based strategies across aviation, accommodation and workforce growth to help achieve the State's visitor economy targets. This includes identifying priority markets and route opportunities to increase airline capacity, supporting long-term careers in the sector, and ensuring accommodation supply meets future demand.
The Associate Director, Visitor Economy Priorities manages a team and oversees a significant program of strategic work, including data analysis, business case development and funding administration. You will lead the aviation funding model, from setting criteria and assessing applications through to evaluation and reporting. Working closely with airports, airlines, education providers and colleagues across government, you will also provide secretariat support to advisory committees and build strong partnerships to drive coordinated, state-wide outcomes for the visitor economy.

Spearheading a whole-of-government approach to visitor economy growth, Destination NSW influences and shapes the visitor economy through strategic research, policy and thought leadership, stakeholder engagement and consultation, commercial partnerships and investment in visitor experiences, business support, marketing and events. Destination NSW is also the major investor in Business Events Sydney (BESydney) for the purpose of securing more international and domestic conventions, incentive travel reward programs, corporate events and exhibitions.

About You
You are an experienced leader who can guide your team to deliver high-quality work across complex and often sensitive policy areas. You are comfortable setting clear priorities, managing performance and building capability, while keeping your team focused on agreed outcomes. You have a strong track record of working at a senior level in a large or complex organisation, providing clear, well-reasoned advice to executive leaders and navigating government processes with confidence.
You bring proven expertise in aviation, infrastructure investment and job creation, supported by strong analytical skills. You are confident managing consultations and negotiations with diverse stakeholders, navigating legislative settings and deliver timely, well-considered outcomes in an often changing and unpredictable environment.
