Overview
Light Regional Council is seeking an experienced and community-minded Chief Executive Officer to guide the organisation through a period of significant growth and strategic development. With the South Australian Government’s Greater Adelaide Regional Plan (GARP) forecasting up to 100,000 current residents in the region over the next 15–30 years, this is a rare opportunity to shape the future of one of South Australia’s high growth Councils.
About the Role
Reporting to the Mayor and Elected Council, the CEO will provide strategic leadership across all facets of Council operations. The role demands a forward-thinking executive who can plan for the provision of expanded services, manage major infrastructure projects, and ensure the Council retains control over the type and quality of development in the region.
The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing Council’s strategic and business plans, fostering a high-performance culture, and ensuring services meet the evolving needs of the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of strategic and annual business plans
- Oversee financial and asset management, ensuring long-term sustainability
- Champion organisational culture, performance and continuous improvement
- Drive regional growth through economic development and major projects
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders, including community, government and media
- Ensure compliance with governance, legislative and WHS obligations
- Represent Council with professionalism and integrity
About You
Light Regional Council is seeking a CEO who is not only strategically capable but also deeply connected to the community. The ideal candidate will:
- Demonstrate impartiality and professionalism in addressing issues within the chamber
- Build strong, respectful relationships with Elected Members, the Mayor and Council staff
- Be approachable and visible within the community, engaging directly with ratepayers
- Have experience as a CEO or General Manager in multifaceted organisation
- Maintain collaborative relationships with neighbouring Council CEOs
- Understand grant funding processes and opportunities
- Foster autonomy and accountability among General Managers to drive results
- Embody honesty, integrity and transparency in all interactions
Qualifications & Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Management, Business, Planning or related discipline
- Extensive executive leadership experience, ideally within Local Government or a similar sector
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning, financial oversight and organisational development
- Strong understanding of governance, stakeholder engagement and community service delivery
