About the Team
Northern Tasmanian Pathology Service (NTPS) provides pathology services to Launceston General Hospital and the Northern regions of Tasmania. We are the only public pathology service operating in North Tasmania and aim to deliver a high‑quality service to general practitioners, medical specialists and private hospitals, with no out‑of‑pocket expenses for Medicare eligible tests. The team comprises multi‑disciplinary scientists, technicians, non‑technical staff and Pathologists.
Role Overview
The main focus of this role will be to assist the Medical Scientist in charge in the day‑to‑day running and management of the Anatomical Pathology department and undertake their duties in their absence. The successful candidate should also be able to apply professional judgement and scientific specialist knowledge towards performance, analysis and troubleshooting of standard diagnostic procedures, whilst displaying a high level of leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in day‑to‑day running and management of the Anatomical Pathology department.
* Apply professional judgement and scientific specialist knowledge towards performance, analysis and troubleshooting of standard diagnostic procedures.
* Display leadership skills and act as a senior member in the team.
Qualifications & Experience
* At least 3 years experience as a Medical Scientist in an Anatomical Pathology Department.
* Scientific and Management duties in equal proportion; previous supervisory or management experience advantageous.
* Experience in Cytology considered favourable.
* Membership of AIMS or ASC, or other recognised professional bodies.
Salary
Salary range $110,425 to $121,907 per annum. Employer 12% superannuation contribution on top of this amount.

Eligibility
* Tertiary qualification in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Science or Applied Science or equivalent.
* Eligible membership with a relevant professional body such as AIMS, ASC, ASM, HGSA, or ACS.
* Essential qualification must be met where no relevant professional body exists.
