The Project
The consortium of John Holland, Bouygues Construction, Arcadis Australia, Jacobs and Ventia has been selected to build South Australia's biggest‐ever road infrastructure project. In partnership with the South Australian Government, this consortium forms the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance.
Job Description
The Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance will deliver the final 10.5km section of the North‐South Corridor, forming a continuous 78km, non‐stop, traffic‐light‐free motorway, and contributing to a long‐lasting legacy for the community and people of Adelaide.
The T2D Project involves constructing two separate tunnels – the Southern Tunnels and the Northern Tunnels connected by an open motorway, with a combined total distance of 10.5km, open to traffic in 2031. The T2D project comprises the tunnels, surface works including road and bridge construction in addition to services buildings and complex mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
The T2D Alliance is committed to providing opportunities for local people, Aboriginal workers, apprentices, trainees and job seekers who are long‐term unemployed and offers people an incredible opportunity to be a part of an iconic project.
The role
Reporting to the M&E Director, the M&E Superintendent will take ownership of delivering all mechanical and electrical construction works across the tunnelling scope of this major infrastructure project.
You will lead high‐performing multidisciplinary teams and specialist subcontractors, driving the safe, efficient installation of complex tunnel and road systems in line with program milestones and quality expectations. This is a hands‐on leadership role requiring strong technical capability, decisive coordination, and the ability to manage multiple interfaces in a dynamic construction environment.
As a key member of the project leadership team, you will play a critical role in integrating civil and M&E works, proactively resolving interface challenges, and maintaining momentum across the program. You will champion a culture of safety, accountability, and performance while ensuring delivery outcomes are met and exceeded.
Responsibilities
* Lead and oversee the delivery of Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) works across all tunnelling activities
* Supervise and coordinate multidisciplinary teams and specialist subcontractors operating across multiple work fronts
* Manage the installation and integration of critical tunnel systems, including electrical infrastructure, mechanical plant, HVAC, pumping systems, fire and life safety systems, and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)
* Coordinate interfaces between M&E and civil/structural construction works to maintain program alignment and construction sequencing
* Utilise digital engineering and systems integration platforms, including Hexagon, to support installation verification, asset integration, and project controls
* Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with approved drawings, technical specifications, quality requirements, and relevant Australian Standards
* Champion a zero‐harm culture by leading safety initiatives, inspections, audits, and toolbox briefings across the workforce
* Monitor construction progress, proactively manage risks, and resolve technical or delivery challenges to achieve project milestones
* Support commissioning, testing, and integration activities to ensure successful handover of operational M&E systems
* Provide accurate reporting, workforce planning, and timely escalation of key issues to project leadership
About You
* Degree or trade qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or related discipline), supported by extensive site‐based construction experience
* 10+ years' experience delivering Mechanical & Electrical works on major infrastructure projects, with demonstrated experience in tunnelling, underground stations, or complex underground environments
* Strong technical knowledge across tunnel M&E systems, including tunnel ventilation, HV/LV power distribution, substations, SCADA and control systems, fire and life safety systems, drainage and pumping, mechanical plant, and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)
* Proven experience managing M&E installation within live tunnelling interfaces, coordinating closely with civil, TBM, and structural construction teams
* Experience working within systems integration and digital engineering environments (e.g. Hexagon, BIM, asset integration platforms) highly regarded
* Demonstrated capability leading large multidisciplinary workforces and coordinating multiple specialist subcontractors across concurrent underground work fronts
* Strong understanding of commissioning, testing, and operational handover requirements for tunnel infrastructure assets
* Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement, and problem‐solving skills, with the ability to drive outcomes in complex, high‐pressure delivery environments
* Demonstrated commitment to safety leadership, risk management, and zero‐harm principles on high‐risk, high‐value construction projects
