About the role
This is a senior leadership opportunity within Australian Retirement Trust's Risk and Compliance function, operating as part of the second line of defence. Reporting to the General Manager Risk – Investments, you will provide independent oversight, expert challenge and strategic advice across complex public and private market investment activities.
You'll work across the investment ecosystem, partnering with Investments, Investment Operations and other Risk specialists to ensure risks are identified, assessed and managed in line with ART's risk appetite and regulatory expectations.
You will play a key part in enhancing investment risk frameworks, evolving governance practices and building capability across the team as a people leader.
Key responsibilities
* Provide strategic, independent oversight, challenge and advice on material investment risks across public and private markets
* Assess investment strategies, products, structures and initiatives with a risk lens
* Deliver commercially sound, practical risk advice that supports sustainable member outcomes
* Contribute to the development and application of investment risk appetite statements, limits and tolerances and monitoring outcomes
* Lead the enhancement of investment risk frameworks, policies and standards
* Prepare high-quality risk reporting and insights for senior leaders and governance forums
* Advise on emerging risks, including escalation of issues and breaches
* Lead scenario analysis, stress testing and forward-looking risk assessments
* Support regulatory reviews, audits and assurance activities related to investment risk
* Lead, coaching and developing a high-performing investment risk team
* We currently have two positions available: Permanent and 12-month fixed term
About you
It goes without saying you\'ll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We\'ll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It\'s quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:
* Extensive experience in investment risk management within investment management, financial markets or complex institutional environments
* Strong understanding of risks across public and private markets, including trading activities, private assets, and investment operations
* Proven ability to provide independent, commercially focused risk advice and challenge to senior investment stakeholders
* Demonstrated experience assessing investment strategies, structures and products from a risk perspective
* Deep knowledge of regulatory and prudential requirements relevant to superannuation, investment risk and financial markets
* Highly developed analytical skills, with experience in scenario analysis, stress testing or forward-looking risk assessments
* Confident communicator with the ability to influence, engage and present clearly at senior leadership and governance forums
* Established people leader with a track record of building high-performing, capable and engaged teams
* Professional qualifications in risk, finance or investments (e.g. CFA, FRM, CPA or equivalent) are well regarded
