**Specialist Advice and Services Division (SASD), Corporate Law Unit**
The SASD is the ACCC's in-house provider of legal, economic and data analysis services across the ACCC and AER. Within the SASD, the Corporate Law Unit (CLU) is the in-house counsel to the Executive and staff of the ACCC. It provides advice in relation to matters affecting the operations of the ACCC generally and helps ensure that the ACCC meets its statutory obligations.
**Role and Duties**
The Compliance Officer is part of a small team responsible for implementing, monitoring reporting and advising on the agency's approach to compliance management.
The ACCC has established a new internal compliance management team within the Corporate Law Unit to lead the implementation of a new compliance management framework. The team is responsible for implementing the framework and associated processes and systems and engages broadly across the ACCC to support its development and rolling out of new compliance tools, a communications strategy and learning and development tools to facilitate the successful implementation of the new framework. The team also has an ongoing responsibility to advise, monitor and report on the agency's compliance management activities.
A detailed knowledge of governance and compliance management principles (particularly in a government environment) is highly desirable, but not essential.
An understanding of the role and functions of the ACCC and relevant legislation, including the _Competition and Consumer Act 2010_ and the _Public Governance, Performance and Accountability_ _Act_ (PGPA Act), and a detailed knowledge of governance and compliance management principles is highly desirable.
Working under direction:
- Assist with the implementation of the agency's compliance management framework, including working collaboratively to develop business processes and requirements for implementing an IT solution.
- Gain an understanding of the agency's compliance obligations, risk profiles and appropriate controls to ensure the compliance management framework enables compliance with operational and functional obligations, and other matters as required.
- Consulting and engaging with Divisions to understand their operational and business needs, compliance obligations and risk profiles, and drafting papers and reporting as required to senior management and internal governance boards and committees, as appropriate.
- Timely coordination and reporting on the implementation of the agency's compliance management framework.
- Secretariat functions for a Compliance Community of Practice to assist Divisions identify areas and sources of risk, impacts, mechanism for mitigation and control risks and reporting.
- Provide timely and accurate guidance and advice to employees in relation to compliance obligations, the compliance management framework, appropriate controls for ensuring compliance, risks assessments and appropriate reporting mechanisms.
