Key Responsibilities and Duties

* Surface Preparation: Removing old paint/wallpaper, cleaning surfaces, filling holes/cracks with caulk or plaster, and sanding to create a smooth surface.
* Application: Applying paint, varnishes, sealers, and stains using rollers, brushes, or spray guns.
* Decorative Finishes: Hanging wallpaper, applying fabric wall coverings, and creating special finishes.
* Site Setup & Safety: Erecting scaffolding, ladders, and placing drop sheets to protect areas from spills.
* Material Prep: Selecting, mixing, and matching colors to achieve desired shades.

Requirements and Qualifications
* Experience: Proven experience as a painter and decorator, often requiring 3+ years.
* Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent color matching skills, and proficiency with various painting tools.
* Physical Ability: Capability to work at heights (scaffolding/ladders) and lift heavy objects.
* Safety Knowledge: Knowledge of OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) requirements and proper handling of hazardous materials.
* Certifications: Often requires relevant trade qualifications, a CSCS card (UK), or specialized safety certifications like Working at Heights.
Common Work Environments
* Residential homes, commercial offices, and industrial structures.
* Often work as part of a team or independently.
