The Department of Health is seeking suitably qualified applicants for an Allied Health Professional - Clinical Lead d) vacancy. The position is also advertised as a Clinical Nurse Consultant ) and only one position will be filled on merit.
The Allied Health Professional – Clinical Lead is part of a dynamic and multidisciplinary team within Mental Health and Statewide Services at the Department of Health Tasmania. The team delivers high-quality, person-centred mental health care aligned with national standards, agency policies, and legislative frameworks. The team strengthens Tasmania’s public health system by driving continuous improvement in clinical safety and quality, responding to safety signals and system insights, and promoting consistent data standards and safety measures across services. The role supports intake, crisis response, assertive case management, and interim support to ensure timely and effective care coordination.

The Role
The Clinical Lead is a senior Allied Health Professional who shapes clinical excellence and service delivery across Tasmania’s public health system. Operating as part of the Allied Health Service Leadership Team, the Clinical Lead provides strategic direction, mentorship, and support to clinical staff, with a focus on education, innovation, and quality improvement.

As part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high quality mental health services in accordance with the Mental Health Services Strategic Plan, Mental Health Services Principles, National Mental Health Standards, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies, the Clinical Lead will provide high level support to the Team Leader in the provision of leadership and direction in a designated community mental health service. Duties include leadership and direction in strategic development and management, resource management, change management to implement the service model of care and policies, optimal clinical processes and client outcomes, and enhanced consumer and carer participation.
You will need to
- Actively contribute to the clinical leadership and management of a multidisciplinary community mental health team to provide high quality, comprehensive, specialist mental health service to a designated population in accordance with the Mental Health Services Strategic Plan, model of care and relevant service policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Support the Team Leader by assuming a lead role in oversight of designated clinical processes including intake, crisis response, interim support, assertive case management and general team coordination.
- Undertake line and performance management of a designated group of staff within a specified community mental health team.

Details of appointment
Fixed term full time, day worker position, 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 30 June 2026. Hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant. The selection process may be used for subsequent or similar vacancies for twelve months.
Salary : $123,717 to $134,336 per annum. Employer 12% superannuation on top. Salary packaging and allowances apply as outlined below.
- Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2022.
- Salary Packaging: access to salary packaging benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 plus $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year and other eligible benefits.
- Allowances: access to salaries beyond $130,900 subject to qualifications and/or eligibility for the personal upgrade scheme.
- Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum.

Eligibility: Successful applicants must meet essential criteria including tertiary qualification and registration with an approved board in OT, Psychology, or AASW as applicable. Registration/licences must remain current during employment.
- Desirable: minimum of 3 years’ postgraduate clinical experience in a community mental health team.
