Description 12-month fixed term contract opportunity Overview The Senior Network Engineer role will support the performance, stability, and technical support of the organisation’s network infrastructure. This role is responsible for identifying, designing, and implementing innovative network technology solutions to ensure the network meets both current and future needs. Key accountabilities include maximising network uptime, managing incidents, supporting business units to minimise downtime, and providing technical expertise in resolving infrastructure issues. The position acts as the primary escalation point for third parties regarding network support, generates network designs for IT projects, and ensures operations are managed within established service levels. The role requires a strategic focus on improving network performance and operational efficiency, collaborating closely with IT stakeholders, and maintaining high-quality technical support to maximise productivity and availability across the business. Key Accountabilities and main responsibilities Strategic Focus Serve as the principal IT stakeholder and owner for the MPMS network infrastructure, providing strategic oversight and direction to ensure alignment with organisational objectives and future growth. Drive initiatives to maximise network uptime and optimise performance, supporting the business in achieving operational excellence and resilience. Champion high-quality incident management and problem resolution, ensuring prompt and effective responses within the scope of the role to minimise business impact and maintain service continuity. Establish, manage and ensure adherence to service level agreements (SLAs), consistently delivering reliable network services in line with organisational standards and stakeholder expectations. Operational Management Identify, design, and implement innovative network technology solutions to enhance the performance and stability of the MUFG Pension & Market Services Group network, ensuring the infrastructure supports both current and future business requirements. Develop and document network designs as part of broader IT infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with organisational standards and best practice. Deliver advanced technical network support for all MPMS business systems and applications, ensuring high availability and performance. Work proactively with Development, Product, and Client-Facing teams to fulfil all network infrastructure support needs across the organisation. Assist in the management and resolution of escalated Severity 1 and 2 incidents, ensuring timely restoration of services in critical scenarios. Administer network monitoring tools and processes to guarantee all devices are effectively monitored, maintained, and backed up in accordance with organisational policy. Respond to all network incidents within agreed service level agreements (SLAs), maintaining a strong focus on minimising business disruption. Participate in the on-call roster, delivering after-hours support as part of a 24x7 operational environment. Contribute to project-based work, including new installations, migrations, and upgrades, supporting the continuous improvement of network infrastructure. Provide IT technical support to MPMS business units, aiming to minimise network downtime and maximise IT systems productivity and availability. Deliver technical support to assist in the resolution of network infrastructure-related incidents, ensuring swift and effective outcomes. Act as a technical escalation point for third parties involved in the ongoing support and management of the IT network infrastructure. Provide day-to-day technical support and management of the MPMS network infrastructure, maintaining high levels of operational reliability and performance. People Leadership Collaborate with other MPMS IT teams to provide comprehensive network support for existing systems and services. Provide expert technical assistance to MPMS business units and the IT Infrastructure team as required, supporting operational continuity. Engage with third-party vendors and service providers (e.g., telecommunications carriers, hardware suppliers) to support and maintain vendor-supplied products and services forming part of the MPMS network environment. Consistently participate in management and team meetings to support effective communication, collaboration, and alignment with organisational objectives. Governance & Risk Ensure all supported network devices are maintained at appropriate patch and firmware levels for security and performance. Create and maintain procedural support documentation Ensure audit and compliance protocols are reviewed and complied with Undertake all mandatory training and ensure ongoing maintenance of professional qualifications relevant to the position, in line with organisational requirements. Experience & Personal Attributes 5–10 years’ experience in a related role. Extensive experience in configuring and maintaining LAN, WAN, and wireless infrastructure in a multi-vendor environment. Demonstrated capability in designing, implementing, and supporting complex network systems. Proven track record of deploying and supporting network technologies in large, complex environments. Hands-on experience with Cisco routing, switching, IP telephony, and wireless solutions. Broad knowledge and experience with equipment from multiple network vendors, including Cisco, Citrix, and Fortinet. In-depth understanding of core network technologies such as TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, Ethernet switching and routing, IPSec, and SSL VPNs. Solid experience working with load balancer technologies, DNS, and Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB). Comprehensive understanding of various WAN technologies. Demonstrated experience in 24x7 mission-critical environments, preferably within the financial sector. Working knowledge or previous experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure. Proficiency in supporting SSL certificate generation, renewal, and troubleshooting activities. Experience with Cisco Nexus virtualisation technologies and Cisco ACI is highly regarded. Good working knowledge of Windows operating systems. Knowledge and experience in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or BASH is advantageous. Familiarity with Windows Active Directory is a plus.
