Economic Division
The Economic Division leads the development of advice to the Government, and implementation of priority projects, for key economic and policy priorities including economic strategy, regulatory reform, housing, social policy, government tax policy and intergovernmental financial relations to drive improvements in Victoria's productive and efficient resource allocation, competitiveness and equity across the economy.
Economic Policy Group
The Economic Policy group supports the Government in growing employment, material living standards and economic activity. The Group advises on employment policy, productivity growth, macroeconomic conditions, energy, climate change and decarbonisation, industry development, business innovation, transport and infrastructure policy, and land use planning. Key tasks include providing advice on inclusively growing jobs and living standards while responding to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenge of inflation and reducing the emissions-intensity of the Victorian economy.
About the role
As a Senior Policy Officer / Senior Economist in the Environment, Resources and Decarbonisation team you will work as part of a highly collaborative team to provide authoritative and timely policy advice to DTF's portfolio ministers and senior leaders on energy, environment, climate change and natural resources issues. This position reports to a Manager within the team.
This position has the following responsibilities:
1. Work independently and as part of a team to deliver; timely, accurate, accessible and fit-for-purpose advice on energy, environment, climate change and natural resources issues for senior management and government;research on economic and/or public policy issues that have commercial, legal or financial implications.
2. Contribute to and manage projects to inform policy development;
3. Collaborate within and outside the team on economic, financial and/or public policy projects;
4. Communicate with and influence internal and external stakeholders; and
5. Contribute to fostering a positive, collaborative and inclusive team culture and participate in planning and decision-making in the Group.
About you
To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate:
6. A strong understanding of the role and influence of State government in policy making ;
7. Influence –experience in building relationships, shaping stakeholders' views and supporting informed decision-making on complex issues;
8. Conceptual and problem-solving skills – demonstrated capacity to solve complex and ambiguous problems experience using economic frameworks and tools for policy advice would be advantageous;
9. Analytical skills – an eye for detail and demonstrated ability to interpret and synthesise information, including data;
10. Communication – strong communication skills including conveying complex issues persuasively to colleagues and senior executives in plain language; and
11. Teamwork – experience working with team members and a range of stakeholders to pursue common goals.
