Job Description

The AI Engineer is a key member of the Digital & Information Technology team under the CTO portfolio and will play a critical role in evolving and delivering innovative AI-driven solutions that enhance operational efficiency, patient care, and clinical research outcomes.

In this full time role, based in the Pelaco Building in Richmond, you will be responsible for building, deploying, and maintaining AI models and data pipelines across various healthcare applications. The AI Engineer will be part of the Data team and will work closely with data scientists, software engineers, and domain experts to ensure that AI solutions are secure, compliant, explainable, and clinically relevant. The engineer must have hands-on experience with Python, Azure AI services, large language models (LLMs), and integration of AI models into existing platforms.

You will make an impact by:

- Designing, developing, and deploying AI/ML models (classification, NLP, LLMs, etc.) for clinical and operational use cases
- Working with stakeholders to translate business problems into AI solutions
- Maintaining and optimize AI model lifecycle, including versioning, monitoring, and retraining
- Supporting AI governance, risk assessment, and model validation

To be successful in this role…
You will have:

- 8–10 years of experience in software engineering or data-focused roles, including at least 3 years in applied AI/ML projects
- Experience in healthcare or regulated industries; exposure to electronic health records or clinical data (desirable)
- Robust proficiency in Python and relevant AI/ML libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
- Extensive experience with data manipulation, analysis, and feature engineering.
- Hands-on experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and their application (e.g., fine-tuning, prompt engineering, RAG architectures).
- Experience with cloud-based AI platforms.
- Solid understanding of data security, privacy, and compliance principles (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, Australian data privacy regulations).
- Experience in designing and implementing robust, scalable, and secure AI solutions.
