NICU at Townsville University Hospital are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Clinical Nurse Consultant for a permanent full-time role.
This NICU provides the only tertiary neonatal service outside Brisbane.
This position facilitates and provides nursing leadership, clinical support, education, training, mentoring, clinical supervision within the nursing team to ensure the delivery of family centred neonatal care.
About the opportunity
The role of the Clinical Nurse Consultant is to facilitate and provide nursing leadership, clinical support, education, training, mentoring, clinical supervision within the nursing team to ensure the delivery of family centred neonatal care.
The role is key in ensuring clinical governance standards are maintained through audit, review, analysis, and reporting. Requirements for the role include advocacy, expertise in neonatal intensive care, neurodevelopmental care, and complex case management to ensure the delivery of high quality, evidence-based practice for neonatal care. This position works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team in the in delivery of education, clinical guideline, policy, and practice development, contributes to strategic and operational management.
About the unit
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides tertiary care and specific specialist services for newborn babies requiring tertiary care. Babies cared for are those born prematurely, those who require surgery, have congenital anomalies or sick infants that require neonatal intensive care. The Neonatal Unit has 22 NICU and 28 Special Care Nursery (SCN) cots and coordinates the Neonatal Retrieval/Transport Service for the North Queensland area. The unit provides the only tertiary neonatal service outside Brisbane.

Requirements:
* Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
* Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.
* Attainment of Neonatal Specific Competencies are mandatory for all nursing staff working within the Neonatal Unit.
* Driver Licence: This position requires the applicant to possess an appropriate license to operate a Class C (car) motor vehicle. Verification of license must be provided prior to commencement of duty.
* Applicant ideally will have a working knowledge of a range of software packages used in the clinical and management environment, e.g., Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, Matrix and Power Point.
