Education and Simulation Senior Registrar

Role summary and opportunities as described below.


Your Role

* You will coordinate the medical education programs in the Emergency Department under the guidance of consultant staff, delivering education and teaching to Residents and Registrars.
* You will develop skills as an educator in simulation design, events managing and debriefing multidisciplinary in situ simulations.
* You will have the opportunity to run monthly immersive multidisciplinary simulations at the Curtin Sim Lab. You will have a weekly education curriculum to assist your development as a Medical Education and Simulation Registrar.
* This role is offered for Semester 1 2025, on a six month contract as part-time 0.5 FTE (40 hours per fortnight). It can be combined with a Senior Registrar Emergency Role to be fulltime.


Our Emergency Department

* 48-bedded department which commenced service in November 2015
* 77,000 presentations per year with an admission rate of approximately 30%
* FACEM-led team-based care
* Excellent, varied case-mix providing a broad clinical experience, including Paediatrics (~17% of presentations), Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Stroke Service.


The Position

* Assist in preparing and facilitating the various medical education programs at all levels (medical students, RMO, Registrar, ACEM exam preparation and courses).
* Undertake professional development in the medical education field with a prescribed university course or agreed alternative.
* Undertake at least one project to improve education quality within the Emergency Department.
* Report to a designated medical education supervisor regularly to discuss progress.
* Keep a logbook of all education duties undertaken for the term period.
* Provide clinical supervision and teaching to Registrars, Resident Medical Officers, Interns and medical students.
* Provide clinical supervision and teaching to junior staff.
* Commit to a team approach in the delivery of care, working closely with nursing staff, allied health professionals, pastoral care services, and other clinicians both onsite and offsite.


Training Opportunities

* Accredited for 36 months ACEM training (Tier 1 site)
* Accredited for Training Stage 4 of ACEM training program
* Accredited for 6-month (1.0 FTE) ACEM Medical Education/Simulation Education Special Skills Post
* Paediatric logbook accredited
* Designated non-clinical FACEMs Monday to Friday 08:00–18:00 to supervise WBAs
* Weekly one-on-one bedside ultrasound teaching by a certified Sonographer to gain skills in AAA and eFAST and fulfil CCPU requirements
* Robust weekly Registrar Teaching Program providing 4 hours protected teaching time
* Multidisciplinary weekly education including Simulation, Journal Club and Mortality & Morbidity meetings
* Supportive teaching programs for candidates sitting their Primary and Fellowship Examinations
* Regular nonclinical time to participate in departmental activities
* FACEM supported opportunities to be involved in clinical audits
* Mentorship program
* Opportunities to attend Midland-based courses including NRP, ALS 2, RAVE-M, SUPER and Bar-ED – Becoming a Registrar Step-Up Course

* Salary: $183,317 to $192,371 per annum, plus 12% superannuation
