Join QBuild for an exciting career prospect as a permanent Workplace Health and Safety Manager to lead the development and application of safety management strategies and systems across QBuild, to ensure the highest possible standards of safety performance and compliance with relevant legislation and standards.

QBuild is a commercialised business unit of the Queensland Government. It has been Queensland Government's builder for over 160 years, playing an important role in communities across the state by building and maintaining government-owned assets such as schools, social housing, police stations and correctional and health facilities.

About The Role

The position provides strong leadership by addressing critical issues and developing and implementing the strategic interventions necessary to ensure the success of Workplace Health and Safety strategies across QBuild Operations.

Key Responsibilities

- Oversee regional activities to ensure Workplace Health, Safety, and Environment compliance, including the implementation of the Safety Management System, WHS risk identification and management, and audit programs across QBuild.
- Provide expert knowledge and advice to operational, supervisory and senior management regarding QBuild Safety Management System processes and requirements, legislative compliance and new technologies.
- Conduct site WHS&E; audits and inspections to ensure compliance with minimum requirements for both QBuild and contractor delivered work.
- Ensure appropriate training and information sessions are provided to the region. Provide direction to WHS professionals on the structure of sessions, ensuring the state WHS training register/system is maintained.
- Lead incident and hazard investigations and produce reporting as required. Assist QBuild staff with reporting, investigating and improvement strategies for incidents/hazards and near misses.
- Ensure formal WHSE reporting for the region and business is completed as required.
- Develop and lead the implementation of organisational change strategies to ensure continuous improvement of safety culture and performance across QBuild. Lead the improvement and development of the QBuild Safety Management System.
- Assist with the worker rehabilitation and return to work programs, under the guidance of the RRTW Advisor.
- Represent QBuild and effectively engage in dealings with other agencies and industry groups as appropriate in order to progress enhancement of WH&S; management within QBuild.
- Proactively manage the work performance and personal conduct of the WHS team. Provide coaching and mentoring to WHS Advisors to enhance their capability.

Required Skills And Experience

- Demonstrated experience providing expert advice in WHS legislative compliance requirements, including relevant legislation, Codes of Practice, Australian Standards / International Standards.
- Demonstrated understanding of how team's work aligns to organisational objectives by considering wider organisational objectives when making decisions and going about their work.
- Demonstrated experience in effectively lead the development and implementation of improvement initiatives and strategies.
- Demonstrated experience in effectively managing a team in a complex work environment to deliver the required work program.

Mandatory Requirement

- While there are no mandatory requirements, WHS&E; experience in construction, maintenance, or similar industry and Certificate IV in WHS is highly desirable.
