Principal Industry Specialist - Economic Development

Gladstone Regional Council is seeking to appoint a maximum term full time Principal Industry Specialist – Economic Development to contribute to Council's success. This position is a maximum term opportunity for strategic implementation of Policy, with a strong focus on renewable energy projects and Community Benefit Agreements (CBAs) with a projected position end date of June 2029.

Responsibilities

* Direct impact and influence on major projects and emerging opportunities with an energy transition focus.
* Strategic and high autonomy role in a globally respected, future-focused industrial region with a diverse offering.
* Maximum term (3 years) full time, 9-day fortnight.

About the Role

The purpose of this position is to provide strategic stewardship across Council's economic development portfolio, with a particular focus on major industry projects and the energy transition. This role leads the participation in social impact assessments and the coordination, negotiation, and execution of Community Benefit Agreements (CBAs) in line with Queensland Government legislation and Council's Renewable Energy Community Benefits Sharing Policy. The role also leads economic development strategic initiatives as required and contributes to Council's strategic advocacy objectives, planning and corporate priorities through specialist advice on economic development, industry and economic transition.

the salary range for this position is $133,549.86 - $150,025.41 + 12% super

You will bring

* Tertiary qualifications in economics, planning, public policy (or a related discipline) and/or gained high-level knowledge, skills and experience in economic development, industry and regional development.
* Accreditation with Economic Development Australia (EDA) or eligibility to obtain within 12 months.
* Extensive experience in economic development, major project coordination, community and social impact engagement, and stakeholder engagement.
* Demonstrated ability to manage complex negotiations and formal agreements.
* High-level strategic thinking, analytical and communication skills.
* Proven experience in financial governance and reporting.
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships.
* Proficiency in project management systems and corporate reporting tools.
* Legally able to drive a motor vehicle in Queensland.
* Ability to work outside of normal hours and undertake travel, including interstate as required.
