Family Group Conference Program
Aboriginal Family Support Services (AFSS) Family Group Conferencing Program (FGCP) accepts referrals from the Department of Child Protection. The FGCP provides a culturally safe and independent process for families to come together and create plans that will address Child Protection Concerns. This child focused plan seeks to involve all relevant family members and can draw in support from other community members or services as identified by the family. This is a culturally responsive, trauma informed and family led model that embraces the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle.
This program will be based in Port Augusta.
Your new role
The Facilitator is responsible for working alongside the family and DCP to ensure all necessary participants are identified and included in the FGC process. The Facilitator will work to support families to create a plan that addresses the Child Protection Concerns held by DCP and will facilitate the FGC in line with the model. Facilitators will have a strong understanding of the historical and contemporary factors impacting Aboriginal children and families, demonstrate a high level of culturally responsive practice and have experience in mediation or family counselling. AFSS will provide accredited FGC Facilitator training to the successful candidate
Who we are looking for
You will have a strong understanding of the needs of Aboriginal families impacted by the Child Protection System and be passionate about empowering families to make informed decisions for the wellbeing of their children. You will also bring your highly developed communication, relationship building and listening skills to support families to create plans.
To be successful you will need
* A South Australian Working with Children Check (WWCC)
* An NDIS Workers Check
* National Police Clearance
* A Safe Environments for Children and Young People Certificate
* A current South Australian Drivers Licence
* Unrestricted eligibility to work in Australia
* Fire Safety Training Certificate
* A qualification in one of the following: Mediation, Family Dispute Resolution, Social Work, Psychology, Counselling
