School of Mathematics and Physics | Full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to 3 years | Base salary will be in the range of $114,****** - $136,****** + 17% Superannuation (Academic Level B) | Based at St Lucia location
About This Opportunity
The School of Mathematics and Physics seeks to appoint a staff member to a Teaching and Research position at Academic Level B on a fixed term of up to three years.
The position is open to candidates from any area of mathematics or statistics.
Applicants are encouraged to highlight how their expertise complements and strengthens that of our current staff.
The successful candidate will have an established or emerging research programme in mathematics or statistics and will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and curriculum development, including service courses.
They will also supervise Higher Degree by Research (PhD and MPhil), postgraduate coursework, and Honours students, conduct high-quality research, and participate in administrative, outreach, and other activities that support the School's teaching and research priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching:Develop and deliver courses, engage in curriculum design, coordinate courses, assess students, provide academic counselling, and adhere to university teaching rules.
Research:Establish a research programme, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilise best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.
Supervision and Researcher Development:Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.
Citizenship and Service:Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You

Applicants should possess a PhD or equivalent in mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field.
Additional selection criteria are:
A growing profile of contributions towards a range of teaching responsibilities, evidence for which can include designing effective learning materials and assessment tasks, using effective teaching and learning approaches, coordinating courses, and participating in a range of student activities.
A developing national profile in research in the discipline area, evidence for which can include a track record of publications and a contribution to the transfer of knowledge.
Evidence of contributing to, and sometimes leading, applications for external research funding.
A growing record of effective supervision of Honours, Masters and Higher Degree by Research students.
Evidence of effective performance of internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia and education check.
