Handyperson – Maintenance

The handyperson is responsible for effectively and efficiently carrying out maintenance of apartments, common areas, and building exterior, and for helping the team with resident wellbeing and supporting a dedicated residential staff.
About Your New Role
Our ideal candidate will possess a positive, can‐do attitude and confidence to work both independently and within a team. Preferably you will have similar experience within student accommodation, real estate, or hospitality – however if you're a quick learner we remain open to considering your application. You will have a 'safety first' mindset, and an understanding of basic OH&S principles and chemical handling.
This role will keep you busy and offer variety in duties day‐to‐day. You will need the physical ability to move and relocate soft furnishings, be flexible with your availability, and be willing to assist with major emergency issues after hours if called on. Communication skills are key as staff and residents come from diverse backgrounds.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Effectively and efficiently carry out maintenance of student apartments, common areas, and building exterior, and manage the soft facilities requirements of the property.
* General maintenance – lighting checks and replacement, minor painting and plastering repairs, minor carpentry and plumbing repairs throughout the building.
* Work within and maintain procedures and standards for all operational areas to maximise efficiency of resources.
* Maintain the highest level of maintenance, safety and security at all times.
* Operate within agreed company health and safety procedures and follow industry and statutory regulations at all times.
* Advise Manager of work to be carried out by external contractors and ensure appropriate approvals are obtained.
* Provide assistance in a professional and efficient manner to residents and visitors.
* Communicate effectively with other staff and contractors.
* Establish good working relations with contractors.
Mandatory Requirements
* Valid work rights in Australia.
* National Police Check.
* Working with Children Check.
* Ability to reliably commit to a full‐time 38‐hour work week.
* Valid Australian Driver's Licence and reliable vehicle.
* Current First Aid + CPR – or willing to obtain.
