Position Profile

The Senior Occupational Therapist plays a key leadership role within the Broome Mental Health Unit (BMHU), responsible for coordinating, planning, delivering and evaluating patient‐centred therapy programmes. This role provides advanced clinical assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic interventions for individuals and groups, ensuring high‐quality, evidence‐based care. Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and Aboriginal Liaison staff, the successful candidate will also plan and facilitate culturally appropriate client activities that support recovery and wellbeing. In addition, the position offers expert guidance on NDIS access and referral pathways, supporting comprehensive client assessments and service coordination.

Area Profile

The WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is the largest country health system in Australia and one of the biggest in the world, providing health services to approximately half a million people, including 45,000 Aboriginal people, over a vast two and a half million square kilometre area. The organisation comprises seven regions, with a strong network of public hospitals, health services and health centres located across rural and remote Western Australia. Our core business is the provision of quality, accessible health services to country WA residents and visitors. WACHS Kimberley is the most northern health region of WACHS. The Kimberley region has approximately 200 Aboriginal communities, over 34 different Aboriginal language groups and 45 percent of the population are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. WACHS Kimberley consists of six hospitals, an inpatient mental health unit, three Community Directorates and a Corporate Office.

Eligibility to Apply

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments).
