The Role

The Head of House plays a pivotal role in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for students, driving the overall development and wellbeing of those assigned to their House. This role requires a deep understanding of each student's intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs, ensuring personalised support through strategic programming, leadership and collaboration with Community Life Mentors and Assistant Head of House in the Senior School. They are responsible for shaping and leading the House culture, aligning it with the values of the School, and empowering students to actively participate in House initiatives.

The Head of House also oversees the planning and evaluation of community programs, manages student records, and provides leadership in managing both student behaviour and wellbeing concerns. Through mentoring, professional development, and collaboration with the wider school community, they ensure that all students are supported in reaching their academic and personal potential, while maintaining a safe and inclusive environment.

This Head of House (Years11-12) role is a 3-year fixed term Positions of Responsibility alongside a Permanent Teaching role (0.4FTE POR Time Release, 0.6FTE Teaching role) commencing in January 2026.

Skills and Experience

* Tertiary qualifications in Education (postgraduate qualifications desirable).
* Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.
* Minimum 3 years proven record as an outstanding teacher.
* Ability to utilise strong coaching, conflict management, problem solving and communication skills to optimise student intellectual, social and emotional wellbeing needs.
* Experience leading / managing a team or has taken on leadership responsibility - including goal setting, managing performance and providing feedback and recognition.
* Experience thriving in pastoral environments.
* Ability to drive change and inspire a culture of continuous improvement.
* Exceptional planning, organisation and decision-making skills.
* Hold self accountable to exemplary standards of behaviour.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead, mentor, coach and inspire others.
* A commitment to professional development and continuous improvement, aligned with school-wide goals.
* Ability to build effective relationships with key stakeholders to influence outcomes.
