Corporate Legal Counsel (Executive Level) We are seeking an experienced and highly regarded legal professional to provide the Victorian Institute of Teaching's (VIT) corporate legal function in a pivotal executive level role. Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Executive Management Team and VIT Council, you will provide authoritative leadership, management and hands on delivery of VIT's corporate legal function, ensuring robust governance, legal compliance & effective risk management frameworks are embedded across the organisation. About the role This role deals with legal, and governance matters across a broad portfolio including: * Provide strategic legal & governance advice to the CEO, Executive, Council and business areas on complex and sensitive governance matters. * Lead & oversee VIT's FOI, privacy and information governance functions, ensuring compliance with legislative obligations. * Advise on governance frameworks, statutory interpretation, delegations and organisational decision-making processes. * Identify and manage enterprise legal risk, supporting strong governance and compliance outcomes across the organisation. * Oversee complex corporate legal matters including contracts, procurement, information-sharing arrangements and statutory requests. * Contribute to governance improvements, legislative reform activities and organisational policy development. * Act as a trusted legal advisor at Executive Management Team and Council meetings on complex governance and risk matters. About you You are a highly experienced legal professional with significant expertise in governance, regulatory and public sector legal frameworks. You are recognised for your sound judgement, technical expertise and ability to navigate complexity, ambiguity and organisational risk with confidence and professionalism. You are comfortable working autonomously in a sole counsel role while remaining collaborative, pragmatic and solutions focussed on your approach. * Strong experience in public sector, government, regulatory or governance environments. * Deep expertise in governance frameworks, statutory interpretation, FOI, privacy, compliance and enterprise risk management. * Exceptional written & verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly and practically. * Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing capability at executive level. * A hands-on, adaptable approach with the ability to balance strategic advisory responsibilities with operational delivery. * High level of integrity, professionalism and sound judgement.
