We have an opening for a Spanish Tutor at North Sydney Community Centre!

***Our previous tutor taught here for 13 years! Unfortunately, she is unable to continue and we are looking for someone to take over her classes, and bring your flair and enthusiasm to strengthen our existing program.

**About our Spanish program**:
Our program currently runs as follows:

- **Level 1**:Beginners - New students undertake 1-2 terms at this level, before transferring to a class at the next level.
- **Level 2**:Beginners Next Step - Having learnt the basics, students undertake a further 1-2 terms in a Beginners' Next Step class, before moving on to Intermediate.
- **Level 3**:Intermediate (and Intermediate Next Step) - For students who have completed 2-4 terms / 32-64 hours or equivalent of study, and are ready to move on to more complex and variable language use. Students would generally study at this level for another 2-4 terms before being ready to join a conversation class.
- **Conversation Classes** - Once students are generally confident with a language, conversation classes allow guided 'practice' with your tutor and other students and the chance to deepen your experience and knowledge of the contextual use of the language through various discussions. Currently we offer a Spanish Advanced Conversation class.

**Please Note**: the days of the week can be discussed according to your needs. Although we have a busy schedule, we are flexible and can explore other alternatives.

**About you**:
We are looking for a community-minded, patient and enthusiastic teacher, who enjoys working with a diverse range of people, to facilitate access to this beautiful language and the joy of learning, reading, understanding and speaking Spanish in a group setting.

Prior Spanish language teaching experience is preferred.

Ideally you should be confident to teach from Beginners through to Advanced level, though we are open to creating opportunities to share the workload, as long as you are willing to work collaboratively with other tutors to make the learning experience seamless, from one class to another.

There is some flexibility required in your approach to teaching: as a community centre, the program we run has an emphasis on fun and culture, rather than academic pursuit, accepting students looking to learn basic Spanish for travelling, as well as accommodating passionate students who wish to progress their language skills to conversational level.

Due to the open enrolment process and generalist categories, you may have slight variants between student skills in your classes each term, for example, a student may join beginners next step in term 3, because they studied Spanish 20 years ago and are not a complete beginner, but having not spent the previous term in your class, they will not be at exactly the same place as everyone else. This can make classroom management a little more challenging.

There can be frustrations that occur with learning something new as an adult, so you will also need a certain degree of understanding and kindness in your approach.
