As we continue to grow, we are seeking a commercially driven Assistant Commercial Manager to work closely with our Commercial Director and play a key role in shaping our next phase of expansion.
About the Role
This is a high-impact role supporting the Commercial Director across supplier strategy, commercial analysis, category development, and growth initiatives.
You will act as a key link between producers, internal teams, and major retail customers — analysing performance, identifying commercially viable opportunities, and helping bring strategic initiatives to life.
This role suits someone ready to step up into a broader commercial leadership pathway within FMCG, wholesale, or food importing.
Key ResponsibilitiesCommercial & Category Support
* Support the development and execution of category and supplier strategies
* Analyse sales, margin, cost of goods, and product performance
* Assist in building commercial plans aligned with business growth targets
* Identify opportunities to improve margin, optimise range, and unlock new revenue streams
* Work closely with local and international producers to review performance and drive growth initiatives
* Support joint business planning and supplier negotiations
* Prepare insights and data to guide trading discussions
* Contribute to innovation, new product development, and portfolio expansion
* Support engagement with major retail customers and independent channels
* Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and category performance
* Assist in preparing business reviews and commercial proposals
Strategic & Analytical Contribution
* Translate complex data into clear commercial recommendations
* Support pricing reviews, forecasting, and trade planning
* Prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership
About You
We're looking for a commercially curious, analytical, and confident operator who thrives in a fast-paced FMCG environment.
You will likely have:
* 3–6 years' experience in FMCG, wholesale, retail or food importing
* Experience in category management, buying, commercial analysis, or account management
* Experience working with or within Australia's Big 4 supermarkets is highly regarded
* Strong understanding of retail dynamics, margin structures, and trade planning
* Strong commercial acumen with advanced Excel skills (Power BI highly regarded)
* Confidence engaging with suppliers and external stakeholders
* Excellent communication and organisational skills
* A proactive, solutions-focused mindset
