Hume Riverina Community Legal Service (HRCLS) is a service of Upper Murray Family Care (UMFC). HRCLS is a generalist, place-based, cross-border, community legal centre improving access to justice in the regional communities of 17 local government areas across North East Victoria and the Southern Riverina of New South Wales. For more than 25 years, HRCLS has been advancing fairness in the legal system through the strategic provision of trauma-informed, person-centred legal assistance, community legal education, and advocacy and law reform to address systemic barriers to justice.
About the Role
HRCLS is seeking a committed and values-driven Lawyer to join the Family Law and Family Violence Practice to provide high-quality, trauma-informed legal assistance with a focus on supporting victim-survivors and people at risk of domestic and family violence across the Southern Riverina of New South Wales.
In this role, you will:
* Deliver targeted, efficient, and effective legal services, including information, advice, casework, duty lawyer services, and court representation.
* Build and strengthen partnerships with community service organisations to provide holistic, person-centred, trauma-informed support to people experiencing intersecting legal and non-legal problems.
* Participate in law reform and advocacy initiatives that promote systemic change and access to justice.
* Provide supervision and support to other lawyers, paralegals, law students, and volunteers.
* Contribute to a positive and safe work culture that values wellbeing, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

About you
You are an empathetic and community-minded professional who brings both legal expertise and a genuine commitment to social justice. You will have:
• Eligibility to hold a practising certificate in Victoria.
• A commitment to working with clients experiencing complex and multiple needs, including those affected by trauma, family violence, or mental health challenges.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively in a respectful and supportive team environment.
• Strong understanding of integrated service delivery and stakeholder management.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts in accessible ways.
• High-level computer literacy, including MS Office and client management systems.
• Experience in civil law (e.g. tenancy, fines, consumer, credit and debt, insurance) and/or family law and family violence.
• Experience providing representation in the Magistrates' Court of Victoria and/or the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.
