Shed & community development liaison - newcastle / flexible location

Offer description

Job description Where good people build communities, shoulder to shoulder.

At AMSA, the work doesn't start with a strategy deck. It starts with a conversation.
Sometimes that's in an office. But more often, it's in a shed — over a cuppa, a sausage sandwich, or a quick chinwag that turns into something more.

We support over 1,300 Men's & Community Sheds across Australia. And while a lot of organisations talk about "community engagement", this role actually does it.

This is a new role, part of a new Shed Development & Outreach function, designed to help us listen better, show up more, and make a real difference where it counts.

The role

This is a job for someone who likes being out there.

As Shed & Community Development Liaison, you'll spend your time on the ground — in sheds, in communities, on the road to build relationships, deliver support, and help Sheds thrive.

You'll work alongside the AMSA team and partners, Shed members and local stakeholders to understand what's working, what's not, and where we can help. You'll deliver workshops, support local initiatives, and connect Sheds with the people and services around them.

You're not sitting behind a desk solving problems. You're sitting across from people, figuring them out together.

The details
* 4 days per week
* Location flexible
* Regular domestic travel required (vehicle provided)
* Some after-hours or weekend work from time to time (with flexibility and notice)
* Competitive salary with NFP salary packaging available
Your impact

Your work strengthens the heart of the Men's Shed movement.

Through direct engagement, you'll help build stronger, more connected and sustainable Men's Sheds — increasing participation, strengthening local capability, and supporting better wellbeing and inclusion for men across diverse communities.

You'll also play a key role in helping AMSA stay connected to what's really happening on the ground — feeding insights, ideas and opportunities to help shape what we do next. This is impact you can see, hear and be part of.

You'll be:

* Visiting Sheds regularly and building strong, trusted relationships
* Delivering outreach, workshops and community engagement activities
* Supporting Sheds to build capability, sustainability and local connections
* Helping new and emerging Sheds get off the ground
* Facilitating learning sessions, forums and practical training
* Connecting Sheds with local services, partners and opportunities
* Capturing insights, feedback and trends from the field to inform our work

There's also plenty of time for tea, biccies and conversations along the way! This role will suit someone who enjoys working with people from all walks of life in practical, community‐based settings.

What we're looking for

You're someone who connects easily with people.

You're practical, down-to-earth, and comfortable walking into a shed, pulling up a chair and having a conversation. You know how to build trust — especially in volunteer-led, community environments.

You might come from community development, outreach, adult education or a similar space, or have equivalent lived or practical experience. You've likely facilitated groups, delivered workshops, or worked directly with communities.

You'll bring:

* Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly
* Experience in community engagement, outreach or facilitation
* Confidence working independently and managing your own schedule
* A practical, solutions-focused mindset
* The ability to listen, learn and adapt in different community settings

An understanding of Men's Sheds, or experience working in regional or diverse communities, is a bonus — but not essential.

Why AMSA?

Flexibility that works for life

We trust people to manage their time, focus on outcomes, and get the job done.

A team that shows up

Small team, good people, plenty of banter. Everyone pitches in.

Purpose you can feel

You'll see the impact of your work in sheds, in conversations, and in communities across the country.
