The Opportunity To undertake slashing of State and Council controlled roadways to a high standard, to perform labouring tasks and efficiently operate a range of Council trucks and road plant to meet required standards on maintenance and construction projects. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide high quality specialist plant operation services including slashing, road construction and maintenance Provide high quality vehicle operation services to the work teams at various locations within and outside the shire Maintenance of State controlled as well as Council controlled roads i.e. pothole patching, guidepost installation, signage Maintain a high standard and consistent approach with the usage of all Council’s plant Maintain and service plant and equipment on a daily basis, in accordance with operating procedures Report any plant defects in the appropriate manner i.e. defect form Provide support in the operation of other plant and equipment, as required Carry out general labouring duties as required Comply with Council operating procedures and site-specific work plant Read and interpret basic plans and instructions. Implement traffic management plans as required Contribute to the promotion of the image of the Council and the maximisation of good public relations Liaise with clients, other Council staff, the public, consultants, utility and government authorities in the performance of duties, including providing and obtaining information Undertake routine administrative tasks as required by the position, e.g. timesheets • Assist senior staff to continuously improve work processes and develop new practices, as required Participate in training, exercises and response to disaster management and recovery as required Undertake other relevant duties as directed, consistent with skills, competence and training. QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND LICENCE REQUIREMENTS Compulsory Current Qld class ‘C’ driver licence Qld Construction White Card or Blue Card (General Safety Induction) Certificate of Competency – Tractor. Desirable Current Qld class ‘MR’ driver licence Implement Traffic Management Plans (ITMP) Qualification (or willing to obtain) Traffic Control Licence (or willing to obtain) Other plant operator tickets. ABILITIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED Compulsory Knowledge in the operation and maintenance of tractors and slashers. Experience in the effective operation of heavy vehicles within a maintenance or construction infrastructure environment. Sound literacy, numeracy and oral communication skills and ability undertake Learning and Development opportunities as required. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment under minimal supervision. Sound understanding of and commitment to EEO and WHS principles and practices.
