About The Division And Role
Victorian Power System Analysis is accountable for planning the transmission system, making network investment decisions and connecting new generators and loads in Victoria, and ensuring these investments don't adversely impact the power system as a whole.
The department plays a key role in successfully navigating the energy future by determining and procuring investment in the best interest of consumers, and by acting as a trusted advisor for Victorian Government.
As an Engineer in the Victorian System Resilience & Performance team, you will undertake power system analysis to support planning assessment, power system operability, and technical advisory services for the Victorian declared shared network.
The role involves assessing transmission network limitations, monitoring performance and compliance, developing network base cases, and preparing advice that ensures a safe, secure, and reliable electricity supply. You'll work both independently and under supervision, using specialised power system analysis tools and techniques to evaluate system capability and performance.
The position has the flexibility to be based out of any of our offices in Australia – Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth & Hobart. Quarterly travel will be required if residing out of Victoria.
What You Will Be Doing
Conduct power system simulations and analysis to assess Victorian transmission network capability, limitations, and performance.
Maintain and integrate new and updated power system models, ensuring accuracy and quality.
Prepare high-quality reports, planning advice, presentations, and briefing materials for stakeholders.
Manage multiple projects and shifting priorities, escalating risks to senior staff and stakeholders when required.
Drive process improvements and collaborate across internal and external teams to resolve system performance issues and align messaging.
What You Will Bring To The Role
Education/Certificates
Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering with a discipline relevant to power systems and relevant industry knowledge.
Experience & Knowledge
Understanding of power systems with the ability to solve technical problems.
Proficient in electricity network analysis tools (e.g. PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSCAD).
Experience automating processes using object-oriented programming languages (Python, Fortran, etc.) is desirable.
Clear, concise communicator with well-developed negotiation and stakeholder skills.
Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-changing environment with high attention to detail.
Strong time management, accuracy, and commitment to quality in deliverables.
