Postdoc research fellow– prefabrication engineering & manufacturing scale up

About the role

The University of Technology Sydney is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Level B) to play a key role in advancing the engineering development, scaleup, and performance validation of biobased prefabricated systems within the 'Build it Green' research program and the UTS Strategic Research Accelerator. This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for two years, offering an excellent opportunity for an early-career researcher to support pilot scale manufacturing, engineering analysis and testing, and development of compliance aligned technical evidence that supports uplifting Technological Readiness Level (TRL).

Key responsibilities

Working closely with the project team, you will:

* Conduct prefabrication engineering analysis, modelling and process development to support the manufacturing scale up of bio-based panels, including batching, processing, handling, curing and dimensional stability considerations
* Undertake and/or assist with undertaking mechanical, thermal and early fire performance testing aligned with relevant standards;
* Generate validated datasets from testing results that inform performance evaluation and technological readiness levels
* Prepare documentation for building product certification in accordance with relevant building code requirements
* Develop digital design and fabrication models, and prefabrication design workflows for bio-based panels that inform panel geometry, functional performance and manufacturing constraints
* Plan, conduct and document pilot scale production trials, including material preparation, moulding, pressing, curing regimes and quality checks
* Track progress against milestones, identify technical risks and dependencies, and prepare concise written updates for internal governance and reporting
About you

You are a post doctoral researcher with:

* PhD (or equivalent) in construction engineering, civil/structural engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, materials engineering or a related field
* Knowledge of prefabrication, panelised building systems or modular construction methods
* Experience with CAD/CAM platforms and, where appropriate, finite element analysis tools
* Experience in conducting mechanical, thermal or materials testing using standardised methods and instrumentation.
* Experience in contributing to manufacturing or pilot scale production processes, including workflow planning, quality control and process optimisation
* Evidence of research outputs such as peer reviewed publications, engineering reports or technical documentation

Remuneration

Base Salary Range: $125,240 - $148,229 p.a. (Level B)This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.This position is full-time and an appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for two years.Why join UTS?
