About the Role:

We're on the lookout for a Senior Technical Officer to join our team in Kalgoorlie in a permanent, full-time capacity. This role is vital in supporting both teaching and research activities across our laboratories and fieldwork environments, ensuring smooth daily operations, a strong safety culture, and technical excellence—particularly in disciplines involving chemical substances and experimental work.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Coordinating daily operations across laboratory, workshop, or field station environments.
* Supporting hazardous experiments involving gas, chemicals, and ChemAlert operations.
* Ensuring safe, compliant, and effective use of spaces and equipment.
* Supporting the preparation and delivery of materials for teaching and research involving but not limited to chemical engineering and chemistry-based practices.
* Supervising and providing technical instruction to students and staff.
* Maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory equipment and managing supplies.
* Developing and upholding standard operating procedures and safety documentation.
* Participating in continuous improvement, training, and professional development.
Who we are looking for – Selection Criteria:
Essential Criteria:
* A relevant degree or trade qualification (or equivalent combination of experience and training).
* Hands-on experience managing technical or laboratory environments, including experience in the preparation of practical laboratory lessons for students.
* Sound knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements.
* Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
* Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
* Willingness to take part in upskilling and professional development.
Desirable:
* Experience in the higher education sector.
* Qualifications and/or experience in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Metallurgy, Mining or a related field or industry will be highly regarded.
* First Aid certification and/or a forklift license will also be highly regarded.

* As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered.
* Physical fitness appropriate to the duties of the role.
* Licenses or certifications relevant to the position.
