Mount Isa Mines are currently advertising for an Environmental Technician vacancy that exists in the George Fisher Mine, Technical Services team. This role is residentially based in Mount Isa, working a 5/2 4/3, 9 hour roster. We encourage suitably qualified and experienced local candidates to apply. For those candidates located outside of Mount Isa, relocation support is available for this position to enable you and your family to live and work in Mount Isa.

About the role
Reporting to the Senior Environmental Advisor, the Environmental Technician plays a key role in supporting environmental compliance and monitoring activities across the operation. The role is responsible for undertaking environmental sampling, monitoring, data gathering, equipment maintenance, and supporting the Environmental Management System to ensure compliance with environmental approvals, legislative obligations, and Glencore standards. This position contributes directly to managing environmental risk and maintaining the site's social licence to operate.
Key responsibilities
* Demonstrate strong safety leadership and comply with HSEC policies, procedures, and standards.
* Conduct environmental sample collection, data gathering, data handling, data entry and record management.
* Maintain environmental monitoring documentation and reporting records to ensure compliance.
* Calibrate, clean and maintain monitoring equipment, vehicles and storage areas to required standards.
* Support environmental monitoring programs in line with Environmental Authority requirements.
* Manage procurement activities including raising purchase orders, ordering supplies and invoice processing.
* Work collaboratively with environmental, operational and technical teams to deliver monitoring outcomes.
* Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors, consultants and external parties.
* Support implementation, review and improvement of Environmental Management System documentation.
* Maintain laboratory and storage areas, ensuring high standards of housekeeping and stock availability.
About you – skills and experience
* Current Manual Driver's Licence with 4x4 experience.
* Ability to work safely in outdoor, remote and operational environments.
* Good level of physical fitness and willingness to undertake predominantly field‐based work.
* Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Strong attention to detail with a focus on accurate data recording and documentation.
* Knowledge of alien invasive plant species in Northwest Queensland is desirable.
* Basic computer skills including Outlook, Word and Excel.
* Technically inclined self‐starter with reduced supervision needs.
* High safety awareness with the ability to identify hazards and report incidents appropriately.
* Organised, motivated and proactive approach to work.
* S123 certification is desirable.
