The primary purpose of the role of Staff Specialist in Psychiatry(Psychopharmacogenomics) is to provide high quality diagnostic and consultative specialty services in Psychiatry in the newly-created Psychopharmacogenomics Programme (PPGx), initially collocated with the Collaborative Centre for Cardiometabolic Health in Psychosis (ccCHiP) and to participate in teaching, research, quality improvement, and administrative activities within SLHD Mental Health Services.
The Staff Specialist in Psychiatry (Psychopharmacogenomics) will function as the front-line clinician, working with psychiatrists and psychiatry registrars. The role of the Staff Specialist in Psychiatry will centre on contributing to the Psychopharmacogenomics clinical assessment and consultation service, which will provide pharmacogenomic and applied psychopharmacological advice to health practitioners within the SLHD.
As one of the first local units of this type, the Unit will develop a strong program of clinical research including collaborations with external agencies and medical and allied health disciplines, as well as ccCHIP, and the Staff Specialist has the opportunity to participate in this research program. The Staff Specialist will have some day to day administrative and managerial responsibilities, including supervision of the registrar assigned to the Psychopharmacogenomics Programme.
This Staff Specialist works closely with, and under the guidance of the Director of ccCHIP, with the potential to move towards a higher role within the unit in the future.
On the job training will be provided by relevant clinical and laboratory experts, making the position suitable for recent Fellows seeking a clinical translationally-focused career path. A conjoint academic position may be available to suitably qualified applicants.
The Staff Specialist will ensure a high standard of professional performance and encouragement of an academic environment that supports education, research, and professional development. The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title in the Faculty of Medicine and Health of the University of Sydney at a level commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience. The award of the academic title would confer membership upon the appointee of Concord Clinical School in Sydney Medical School of the Faculty of Medicine and Health. The academic title would be held for the duration of their Sydney Local Health District appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee would be responsible to the University for academic matters and to Sydney Local Health District for clinical matters.
The successful applicant will be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and Fellowship of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and/or other equivalent specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialists (State) Award.
Salary and conditions are in accordance with the NSW Staff Specialist (State) Award.
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course (2 doses) of a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine (except for the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine which is approved by the TGA as a single dose primary course). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. A NSW Health agency may require further information about the medical contraindication (including but not limited to an Immunisation Medical Exemption form – IM011 form).
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
