About the Role


ASD's Capability and Transformation Group is seeking experienced Project Managers, both technical and non-technical, to lead and deliver complex capability projects that shape Australia's defence future.

As an ASD EL1 Project Manager, you will take ownership of projects across the full Capability Life Cycle, working with integrated teams to deliver outcomes that matter. Your key responsibilities include:

* Leading project delivery, maintaining and applying knowledge of project management processes and tools, including but not limited to schedule, risk management, quality assurance, benefits management, finance, cost modelling, procurement, contract management, acquisition strategy, test and evaluation, resourcing, project briefs, project management plans and post implementation reviews.
* Implementing project management practices to support iterative/agile working.
* Generating, maintaining and communicating a vision of the project's outcomes and associated benefits.
* Developing and maintaining project artefacts, including briefing presentations, submissions, and reports relating to project status and risks and issues in accordance with organisational record keeping requirements.
* Supporting the evaluation of project and program performance to understand and anticipate critical factors for success and recommending changes where necessary.
* Managing interdependencies in support of specific business strategies and objectives.
* Supporting prioritisation of competing deadlines and managing uncertainty to deliver on agreed project outputs within timeframes and budgets.
* Oversight of and undertaking administrative and logistical support, including documentation management, meeting coordination, and drafting and progressing of financial and procurement documentation.
* Accountability for team cohesion, setting work area priorities, managing workflows and evaluating business outcomes.
* Ensuring the team is keeping end-users informed on the progress of issue resolution and estimated timeframes for resolution.
* Provision of mentor support to junior staff in order to build a stronger understanding of polices, processes and procedures.
* Working closely with other project equity owners and other areas across the organisation.

Adelaide positions will have a focus on security, and being ready to enable certification activities for the project. Key duties may include:

* Performing security inspections of hold and witness points in order to provide a level of security assurance.
* Identifying security vulnerabilities and risks in relation to the construction project.
* Implementing security risk mitigation strategies in consultation with relevant stakeholders throughout the life of the project.
* Checking and investigating any installation deviations from the security specifications.

As an ASD EL1 Project Manager, you will lead initiatives that shape Australia's defence capability. We're looking for strategic thinkers and problem-solvers who thrive in complex environments and can turn challenges into opportunities.

Our ideal candidate will have:

* Highly developed written and oral communication skills and an ability to communicate information coherently and concisely to stakeholders.
* Initiative when working with other project staff, engaging effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
* Ability to work to strict timeframes and transparently escalate issues as required.
* Highly developed attention to detail with an analytical approach to work.
* Ability to provide strategic advice to senior management and stakeholders as well as leading and assuming accountability for projects or programs that have strategic or operational significance.
* Negotiation skills to effectively achieve outcomes and solve problems.
* Understanding of rules and regulations governing project acquisitions, sustainment, and decommissioning.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team consisting of APS, ADF and Contractors to ASD.
* Ability to work collaboratively to achieve results and has a willingness to learn and adapt to the needs of their customers.
* Strong interpersonal skills to foster and promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture that aligns with ASD values.
* Responsiveness, adaptability and openness to change, maintaining a positive attitude within a challenging operating environment.
